Here’s Angela Russo-Ostot’s brief cameo in Captain America: The Winter Soldier explained. Back in 2014 Captain America: The Winter Soldier was Joe and Anthony Russo’s biggest movie, but was by no means their first rodeo. The Russo Brothers have been working together since they made their debut feature Pieces in 1997. Before the MCU beckoned they worked as directors and producers on shows like LAX, Arrested Development and Community alongside directing the 2006 comedy You, Me And Dupree.

Joe and Anthony aren’t the only film and TV talents in their family. Their sister Angela Russo-Ostot is a writer, producer and story editor who has worked on shows like sci-fi reboot V and FX’s critically acclaimed crime drama The Shield. She’s also collaborated with her siblings a few times over the course of her career with bit roles in LAX, Arrested Development and their 2002 comedy Welcome To Collinwood which was filmed in their hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.

It shouldn’t be too surprising Angela Russo-Ostot also popped up in Captain America: The Winter Soldier too. She played a former soldier credited as Garcia who features in a scene set at Sam Wilson’s counselling group for war veterans and talks about her struggles with PTSD. More specifically, she’s the character that admits she was pulled over by a cop after swerving to miss a plastic bag she thought was an IED (improvised exploding device).

The Russo Brothers have made their MCU movies a family affair. Alongside Angela Russo-Ostot, Captain America: The Winter Soldier also featured Anthony’s wife Ann in a small role as a strike agent. Ann Russo had a voice role as Helmut Zemo’s wife in Captain America: Civil War which also featured Joe’s daughter Sophia. In Avengers: Endgame, Hawkeye’s daughter Lila Barton was played by Joe’s daughter Ava Russo and the scene in which Smart Hulk poses for a selfie with some kids featured Joe’s other daughter Lia, Anthony’s son Julian and their nephew Augie.

Joe and Anthony Russo may be done with the MCU - for the time being at least - but they’ve got plenty more exciting projects up their collective sleeve. They’re directing the upcoming crime drama Cherry starring Tom Holland and the Amazon Prime spy series Citadel alongside producing projects including TV shows Magic: The Gathering and The Warriors and the sci-fi film Everything Everywhere All At Once. Perhaps we’ll see more of Angela Russo-Ostot in one of her brothers’ upcoming projects.
