Candiace Dillard-Bassett revealed her husband Chris Bassett was "very hurt" by the rumors spread about him by The Real Housewives of Potomac cast, especially Gizelle Bryant. Candiace joined the series during RHOP season 3, and is a polarizing figure on the show. Fans of the show love to hate her. The RHOP star's feuds with Charisse Jackson Jordan, Gizelle, and Ashley Darby have placed her in the hot seat on more than one occasion. Even then, she remains the same, offering more drama each season. RHOP season 7 has likely been Candiace's toughest season besides season 5, where former cast member Monique Samuels physically attacked her due to allegations made by her former friend Gizelle.
Since the beginning of RHOP season 7, Gizelle has told the entire cast, including Candiace, that Candiace's husband Chris made her "completely uncomfortable" during the season 6 reunion taping. Since becoming the target of rumors and one of the season's main storylines, Candiace told Page Six that Chris was not in the best place. "As Dorinda [Medley] would say, ‘Not well, b*tch." Candiace further explained that it took Chris some time to move on from what some of the cast said about him. "He was not well for quite a while. It was a mind eff for him to have this picture painted of him because that’s what Gizelle did," she said. "She painted a picture of him that didn’t belong to him. She created a narrative that was completely false and damaging and hurtful."
Gizelle Bryant's Statements On RHOP Made Chris Upset
Since the season wrapped, Candiace revealed that Chris is "better now" but added he was "very hurt" by Gizelle's decision to shame him among the group throughout the season. "There are headlines that will live on the internet that insinuate that my husband is a predator, and you can’t undo that. And that’s why it’s so damaging for people to be able to make things up," she said. Gizelle's comments throughout RHOP season 7 have suggested that Chris' behavior during the season 6 reunion was inappropriate; however, footage from the reunion that was aired on the show proved that to be false. "It’s hurtful, and he was very hurt by it," Candiace explained.
Gizelle's Comments Painted Chris In A Negative Light
The Real Housewives of Potomac is one of the most popular cities in The Real Housewives franchise, and typically draws a lot of fan interaction. Candiace's reaction to Gizelle, Robyn, and Ashley's discussion about Chris' fidelity and painting him as a possible predator could have done substantial harm to Chris and Candiace. Fans have quickly called out Gizelle and Robyn on social media for their unfair portrayal of Chris on RHOP. Additionally, viewers have questioned Gizelle's motives for waiting to discuss her concerns on the show, rather than when they happened. During a heated interaction about the allegations at the beginning of the season, Candiace exploded on Gizelle and the production crew for going forward with a false story that puts her husband in a negative light. Since then, she hasn't interacted much with Gizelle on the show and has stated that she doesn't plan to.
