A new piece of fan art reveals what Cameron Monaghan could look like as Cletus Kasady/Carnage in the Venom solo film. And in terms of iconic comic book villains that fans have been wanting to see come to life on the big screen, Carnage sits right near the top of the list as one of the few, extremely monstrous antagonists to not have ever been in a live-action film. Now, that's not necessarily much of a surprise since the Spider-Man franchise has not only been rebooted three times now but has also recycled some of the same villains over again across the different iterations. That, and also the fact that Carnage is one of the most legitimately evil comic book villains ever created.
But none of that has quieted the level of demand from fans to see Carnage on the big screen one day, and fortunately, it doesn't look like they'll have to wait much longer before they get their wish, thanks to the recent reveal that Sony's planned Venom spinoff film would feature Carnage opposite Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock/Venom. And predictably, there's been quite a lot of talk about Carnage's role in the film ever since that news was first released.
Thanks to some new artwork released today by BossLogic (via Comicbook.com), fans can get some kind of idea of what Gotham star Cameron Monaghan might look like, were he be cast in the coveted Venom film role. You can check out the artwork for yourself down below:

This artwork comes just a few days after Monaghan himself expressed his interest in playing Carnage in the film. He's not the only actor to throw his name into the Carnage ring over the years either, and just late last year even, Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda said he'd want to play the comic book villain in a film if he could. So it's clear that even actors are aware of the possibilities that having Carnage in a film can provide, but whether or not any of these rumored names end up getting the role, however, is another matter entirely.
In addition to both Monaghan and Miranda, fans have been busy fan-casting the role online for several weeks now, and we here at Screen Rant even made up a list of actors who could play Carnage on the big screen recently as well. It's hard to know, of course, who Sony may actually be considering for the role, though they'll have to be someone of considerable talent and onscreen presence in order to make for a believable foe opposite an accomplished actor like Tom Hardy. But even though there's still quite a lot of mystery surrounding this casting right now, the online excitement surrounding the news should be enough to prove just how genuinely excited fans actually are to see Cletus Kasady finally receive the film treatment.
