Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 5 patch notes are live, and they give a closer look at what’s coming to the popular games this season and when. Warzone players have been waiting for Season 5 for a long time, as it marks the opening of the Verdansk map’s stadium, but Activision recently gave Modern Warfare players a reason to be just as excited with the reveal of several new multiplayer maps.

The latest gameplay trailer for Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 5 gave players their first look at some of the features they’ve been waiting so long for, as well as reveals of previously unannounced maps. It came just days after Activision revealed another big change coming to Warzone Season 5 with the arrival of the Shadow Company mercenary faction. Season 5’s August 5th release date was revealed just a few weeks ago, finally putting a launch date on the hyped content drop.

Opening day for Season 5 has finally arrived, and Activision’s new Call of Duty patch notes make it official. Like previous updates, the Season 5 patch comes with a hefty install size, but that’s not surprising given what’s inside. This week alone, Modern Warfare will add the Verdansk International Airport, Livestock, Petrov Oil Rig, and Suldal Harbor maps, plus the Search and Destroy Double Down mode. Warzone will get its long-awaited stadium area and patrolling loot train, plus the train train interior to play in. Season 5 is also introducing the Mini Royale mode for a shorter, more intense experience.

More content is incoming after launch week, including the Operator Velikan, King Slayer mode for Warzone, two new Modern Warfare multiplayer modes, and new weapons including dual kodachis. Maybe most intriguing of all, the patch notes also tease a mid-season event but provide no details on what it might be. The mid-season update for Season 4 brought new Modern Warfare maps, Warzone’s short-lived 200-player mode, and new weapons, so Season 5’s half-time event should be worth looking forward to. Even farther down the road, Activision recently teased some of its long-term plans for Warzone, saying that it will tie neatly into Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the suspected name for the franchise’s confirmed 2020 release.

The launch of Call of Duty: Warzone was a big deal, but it would have been impossible to predict then just how exciting the game would become. Players who want to jump in and see everything new coming to the game better start their downloads as soon as they can if they want to get in at the beginning of the most exciting season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone yet.
