Call of Duty: Warzone is one of the top games of 2020, and recently many players were excited to try out Warzone's new Halloween-themed limited time mode, Zombie Royale. After having enjoyed it, it seems like lots of Warzone players believe Zombie Royale has topped all of the battle royale's previous game modes. Warzone's Zombie Royale takes certain features out of the base game to make it a more fast-paced, Call of Duty-like game.

Zombie Royale was added to Warzone in October as part of The Haunting of Verdansk update, and brought along many Halloween-themed cosmetics and skins with it. With many popular battle royale titles such as Fortnite coming out with new Halloween updates, this was a necessary update for Warzone.

Since then, Zombie Royale has now become the go-to game mode for many Call of Duty: Warzone players, instead of the classic battle royale modes. There are a number of reasons Zombie Royale feels like such a big change from the normal Warzone experience, and it's not just because of the undead enemies.

How Warzone Changes In Zombie Royale

Call of Duty_ Zombie Royal Feature

Zombie Royale removes a few key features from Warzone's battle royale. Firstly, the gulag doesn't exist anymore. If a player dies, they'll be respawned as a zombie, and can be revived as a human if they manage to eliminate two players and collect the antivirus. A player can stay in the game until they eventually die as a zombie or the game ends. The zone is also much smaller than a normal match in Warzone. The starting area is about as small as it would be in a late-game situation of battle royale, which means players will be engaging in firefights throughout the whole match.

Zombie Royale also affects the pace of gameplay that Warzone players normally experience. Normally, even though Warzone keeps Modern Warfare's mobility, it has a much more cautious and slower pace. Because of how big Verdansk is, players can sometimes spend the majority of their game travelling the map. Zombie Royale eliminates this problem by forcing players into a small circle to loot up and prepare for an immediate fight.

Being respawned as a zombie makes Zombie Royale feel much more forgiving than the classic battle royale. In Warzone, it's not uncommon to die right after landing, and then proceed to die again in the gulag. Being switched to a zombie puts players right back onto Verdansk, allowing deceased teammates to help out their friends from the dead. Playing as a zombie is even as fun as being a human, with super jump and silent movement abilities.

Although Zombie Royale still has some flaws, the way the mode changes core fundamentals of Call of Duty: Warzone and forces players to think of new strategies makes it one of the best limited time modes players have seen in the game yet. Zombie Royale manages to keep the battle royale-style while re-introducing Modern Warfare's core multiplayer gameplay. Hopefully some ideas that Zombie Royale implemented will stay in Warzone, but interested players should take advantage of the fun game mode while they still can.
