A new map is coming to Call of Duty: Warzone that coincides with the upcoming release of Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, but it won't be ready for release in 2020. The release of Cold War is sneaking up, with the game set to launch on November 13, but Warzone won't see any changes for a while after that. There's new content coming to COD's battle royale from Cold War, but it's not arriving until the game's first multiplayer season starts, which is targeted for December.

Warzone will definitely be getting a map that's going to be infused with Cold War flare. It's rumored to be set in the Ural Mountains map from Call of Duty Black Ops' Fireteam mode that players visited during the beta release. Expect trees, steep terrain and plenty of medium to long-range combat opportunities. There wasn't a ton of space for vehicles in Fireteam, but that doesn't mean there won't be in the new Warzone map. Its likely that the Fireteam terrain will see plenty of tweaks before it's integrated into Warzone.

Warzone's map is coming, but it's not going to be out in 2020. According to YouTuber TheGamingRevolution, new leaks imply that the new map will be released in March 2021, around the same time that Warzone was launched last year. With this move, it appears as though Warzone will be settling in to it's own release schedule. Developers and shareholders will be pleased if Call of Duty can figure out how to deliver two games per year, as opposed to the yearly release schedule COD is currently on. Players should treat the launch of new Warzone content as the release of a new game, rather than just a season update.

What COD Warzone's Release Cycle May Be

It's going to be interesting to see how developer Infinity Ward handles Warzone's release cycle. The map is expected to be released in March, but that's about as far away from the traditional release of the yearly Call of Duty title as a game could get. Normally COD comes out in September or October. If Infinity Ward decides to really give Warzone an overhaul, the franchise could enjoy the interest spike of a new game twice each calendar year, which is sure to boost revenue.

The new map for Call of Duty: Warzone is expected to hit servers in March after Verdansk has it's one-year anniversary. There will be Black Ops: Cold War content in Warzone before that, but players will have to wait for 2021 to explore the Cold War map. Cold War is available to pre-load currently, and it's a huge file. It's possible that a lot more new content will be on the way around March, and players should begin to get accustomed to a second yearly COD release.
