Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5 is finally adding some long-awaited changes to the Verdansk map, and they were all shown off in a new trailer, along with plenty of other surprise additions coming to the game. Warzone Season 5 is also introducing a new faction to the game, with the mysterious mercenary group Shadow Company joining the fray.

Warzone’s Verdansk map changes have been the course of constant speculation throughout the latest season of the popular battle royale. Various leaks and rumors pointed to the map’s stadium being opened to players in an update at some point in Season 4 before the likely timeline shifted to the beginning of Season 5. Once the stadium’s opening became accepted as inevitable, new details began pointing to an Apex Legends-style loot train coming to the map as well. There was also speculation that the map updates could be kicked off by the dramatic in-game detonation of a nuclear bomb.

Just days before the launch of Warzone Season 5 on August 5th, Activision has confirmed at least some of the persistent rumors. A trailer dropped today on the Call of Duty YouTube channel shows both the opening of the stadium and the Verdansk map’s new train. The interior of the stadium looks like a sniper’s playground, with plenty of high vantage points to hide in and incredibly long sightlines to exploit. The train could end up being an even more exciting addition, though, as it provides a moving battlefield and the potential for some thrilling rooftop battles. While the rumors of Warzone Season 5 being kicked off by a nuclear bomb don’t seem to be true, the trailer shows the stadium being opened with a massive explosion on the roof, though whether that will translate to an in-game event is still unclear.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer mode will also be receiving an update, with new 6v6 mode getting new Suldal Harbor and Petrov Oil Rig maps, Gunfight adding the Livestock map, and Ground War adding Verdansk International Airport. Even before the news from the trailer, Modern Warfare players weren’t exactly hurting for new maps, with the most recent addition, Cheshire Park, just arriving at the beginning of July.

Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5 is kicking off with some of the most anticipated updates in the game’s history. The substantial additions to the map should keep the game fresh as payers figure out how to content with the new landscape, but it sets a high bar for Activision to clear with future content updates.
