Activision has officially confirmed that it's working on Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile. The free-to-play battle royale has become incredibly popular since it was first launched in March 2020 almost half a year after the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot was released. Interestingly, the game’s initial developer Infinity Ward has confirmed COD: Warzone 2 is already in the works alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, both of which are being built on an all-new engine.

The Call of Duty franchise has found pretty massive success on mobile, with the release of Call of Duty: Mobile in October 2019. Apart from receiving generally favorable reviews from both critics and players, the free-to-play mobile title, which is currently available on Android and iOS, was the largest mobile game launch in history, achieving 148 million downloads and generating nearly US$54 million in revenue within its first month of availability. That success grew even further as Call of Duty: Mobile reportedly earned developer TiMi Games $10 billion in revenue in 2020, making it the most profitable developer studio in the world for the year.

In a new blog post, Activision announced that it’s bringing Call of Duty: Warzone to mobile platforms and is looking to hire more people to join the game’s different development teams. According to Activision, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is being built natively for the platform and it's looking to fill positions in engineering, production, design, marketing, and more, across several of its internal studios such as Digital Legends, Solid State Studios, Beenox, and Demonware. Apart from the announcement and the call for more people to join its development teams, Activision didn’t reveal any other details on the mobile version of its Call of Duty battle royale title.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile Confirmed

Activision began hinting at developing a new Call of Duty game for mobile platforms last year when it established a new studio dedicated to making mobile games. The new Activision studio for COD mobile games, which was referred to as Activision Mobile at the time, was eventually confirmed to be Solid State Studios, which is now looking to be leading the development for Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile.

Given that the company is only beginning to hire more people to work on the game, it might be a while before Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is released. In the meantime, Call of Duty fans can either experience Warzone on PC or console or try out what the series is like on mobile with Call of Duty: Mobile.
