The second season of Call of Duty: Vanguard has been officially revealed, with an upcoming update introducing new maps, game modes, perks, Zombies content and more. The latest installment in the first-person shooter franchise launched back in November 2021, taking players back to the brutal battlefields of World War II to witness the birth of the modern special forces. While low sales muted the release of CoD: Vanguard, developer Sledgehammer Games continues to support the title with post-launch content.

Before launch, Call of Duty: Vanguard was highly anticipated due to a number of interesting innovations and a collaborative development cycle. The historical warfare simulation was said to feature in-depth weapon customization, allowing gamers to tailor their arsenal to suit their fighting style. The game's maps, which recreate some of WWII's deadliest theaters of war, also boast destructible environments which can seamlessly change the flow of the map. Long-time Call of Duty developer Treyarch developed Vanguard's Zombies mode while Sledgehammer Games focused on multiplayer and the campaign, making the title a collaboration between two renowned studios. Still, CoD: Vanguard's poor sales and reviews were caused by technical issues, a lack of interest in the World War II setting and fans' fatigue from the franchise's yearly release schedule.

CoD Vanguard Season 2 Zombies

While Sledgehammer Games continues to support Call of Duty: Vanguard with an extensive second season, rumors suggest that the franchise's next entry may soon be revealed. According to leaks, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 will soon be announced and the titles may launch together in 2022. Developer Infinity Ward recently teased an impending reveal of Modern Warfare 2, which will serve as a sequel to 2019's reboot of the modern-day series. However, based on the Season 2 patch notes, it appears that Vanguard will still receive support for the foreseeable future.

With a variety of additions to both the multiplayer and Zombies modes, the second season of Call of Duty: Vanguard strives to bring gamers an abundance of new content. However, time will tell whether new maps, weapons and game modes are enough to rebuild the first-person shooter's dwindling playerbase. Gamers will be able to enjoy Call of Duty: Vanguard Season 2 starting February 14.
