It Looks Like 2019's Call of Duty Game is Modern Warfare 4

It looks like the Modern Warfare series that propelled Call of Duty to the most successful gaming franchise might be making a comeback. The Call of Duty franchise has a unique development cycle wherein three different studios - Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games - work on a new entry independent of each other.

By allowing each developer to work on their respective games for up to three years on a rotation also allows the franchise as a whole to continue on a yearly release schedule. It's Treyarch's turn this year, and they are breaking barriers by releasing the first fourth-numbered installment in a story arc: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Then, it's Infinity Ward's turn in 2019, and it seems they will be following in Treyarch's footsteps by potentially making the jump into Modern Warfare 4.

Gaming INTEL reports that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is in development for 2019, and it will be the next game after this year's Black Ops 4. Developer Infinity Ward, which has traditionally developed the series in the past, will be working on the fourth installment, and some major staff that had previously left the studio have rejoined in recent years.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Gameplay

According to Gaming INTELCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be a more traditional package for the series as far as features go. A full single-player campaign will be included (no word if it will continue Captain Price's story), alongside multiplayer and a zombies mode. This is in stark contrast to Black Ops 4, which is foregoing a story mode and instead is including a Battle Royale mode titled Blackout.

Interestingly, the rumor has received a major co-sign from Call of Duty site charlieINTEL. "[This rumor] lines up with information that charlieINTEL has heard about Infinity Ward’s next Call of Duty title," the site wrote on Twitter. The outlet has an incredibly accurate track record when it comes to the series and became popular thanks to its leaks surrounding the first-person shooter, so this adds a lot of validity to the initial rumor.

Infinity Ward's two most recent titles (Ghosts and Infinite Warfare) haven't been the best received in the studio's history, so it makes sense that they'd go back to their bread and butter, especially after the enormous success of Call of Duty: WWII and the hype already surrounding Black Ops 4. The rumor also coincides with voice actor Craig Fairbrass having listed Modern Warfare 4 as one of the projects he's worked on in his Twitter description. However, when asked about the listing he described it as a "bit of confusion and over reaction." He has since removed the mention of the game, but it's too little too late for that.
