While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has inherited an overhauled Gunsmith feature from previous games, the attachments on offer could actually be decreasing weapon performance. Recently released on October 28, Modern Warfare 2 continues the reboot of the franchise's 2007 Modern Warfare series with a new campaign and Call of Duty's signature multiplayer action. However, some players are discovering that the game may have some peculiar quirks, on top of issues like being unable to disable MW2's crossplay on Xbox and PC.

As reported by GameSpot, some savvy Modern Warfare 2 players have discovered that the game's variety of gun attachments may not actually be the best options. While the game offers up to five attachments on a given weapon, Call of Duty YouTuber TheXclusiveAce has put out a video comparing weapon attachments side-by-side, showing that many of them have severely detrimental drawbacks, while also not providing as much of a boost as some players might like. With this in mind, TheXclusiveAce suggests that filling out all five attachment slots in MW2 may not be optimal in many cases, and that players should instead look for attachments with fewer drawbacks.

MW2 Players Are Finding That Their Weapons May Be Better Off Without Attachments

With the latest Call of Duty currently suffering from a few other issues, such as backlash toward MW2's worst map, Border Crossing, players can likely expect a number of balance changes and updates in the game's future. However, the possibility remains that the attachments may not be subject to much change. While they come with heavy drawbacks, it remains to be seen if those disadvantages are an intentional balancing choice. Additionally, some options still exist for attachments with minimal or no drawbacks, such as the FSS Sharkfin 90 grip.

While attachment drawbacks may be overly punishing, it is also worth mentioning that a related system, Weapon Tuning, is currently disabled due to a bug causing game crashes. As such, the game's intended balance for weapon attachments is likely not in effect. In tandem with other issues, such as the game's cluttered UI and menu system, which one MW2 player has made a mock-up fix for, Modern Warfare 2 is likely far from its ideal state, and is almost certain to see changes going forward.

Most competitive games can rarely achieve perfect balance, especially on release, and while such issues can be frustrating for players, the competitive balance of a game is also one of the aspects that is most subject to change. With MW2's weapon attachments perhaps having too many drawbacks, many players will likely be looking to adapt their loadouts before a potential balance patch, either using fewer attachments or looking for those without drawbacks. Whatever the case, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 almost certainly has more updates in store.
