A newly announced DLC pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 containing several cosmetics and bonuses will help to support real-life veterans. Modern Warfare 2 launches soon on October 28, with many fans awaiting the latest installment in the series, as well as the launch of Warzone 2 alongside it in November. As the sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare, MW2 continues the Call of Duty franchise's reboot of the 2007 series by the same name. The game will include a variety of cosmetics at launch, including a Burger Town Operator with a weird unlock method, but players may want to take special note of a particular DLC pack coming to MW2.

On the Call of Duty blog (via Twinfinite), Activision has revealed a new DLC pack going live alongside MW2's launch on October 28th, called the Call of Duty Endowment (C.O.D.E.) Protector Pack. It comes with several cosmetics, including operator skins, weapon blueprints, and calling cards, along with other bonuses like XP tokens. All the proceeds from the C.O.D.E pack's $9.99 price tag will be donated towards the Call of Duty Endowment initiative, a nonprofit organization founded by Activision to help American and British veterans re-enter the job market. Although the donations coming from the DLC pack will cap at $4 million, military service members and veterans in the U.S. will also receive the DLC for free.

While MW2's portrayal of the military has been contentious, as seen by the list of war crimes committed by Call of Duty characters, the C.O.D.E. Protector Pack at least offers tangible benefits to real life survivors of military conflict. Additionally, the pack will also be compatible with Warzone 2 upon the game's launch in November, meaning that players of both games may be able to get some extra value from the DLC. With the Call of Duty franchise's popularity and the excitement for MW2's release, the DLC seems relatively likely to meet its donation cap of $4 million.

Aside from cosmetics, Modern Warfare 2's pre-release reveals have been something of a mixed bag, with the game's beta making some controversial gameplay changes to the minimap, player movement, and footstep noises. In addition, it was also revealed that MW2 will be adopting the unpopular phone number requirement from Overwatch 2, possibly locking out players with prepaid phone plans. However, there have been some definite positives as well, as MW2 has impressively realistic maps, and a toned-down file size from previous entries.

While the C.O.D.E. Protector Pack makes moves towards supporting veterans, players may balk at some aspects of the DLC, including its cap of $4 million donated - an amount that is likely to be dwarfed by MW2's own profits, not to mention the profits of Activision Blizzard as a whole. Although the DLC certainly has the potential to provide tangible benefits to veterans in need, some may take a dim view of the DLC's restrictions and player-funded nature, especially coming from one of the largest video game franchises in the world. Whatever the case, the C.O.D.E. Protector pack goes live alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on October 28.
