Prior to its second anniversary next month, Call of Duty: Mobile's biggest update to date has been announced by Activision, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's fan-favorite Battle Royale map, Blackout, will be returning as an addition to the popular free-to-play mobile title on September 22nd. Blackout made its debut to the series as the home of the franchise's first popular Battle Royale map, but was later replaced by Warzone, which is still receiving updates to this day.

Despite being a free-to-play mobile game, Call of Duty Mobile's popularity and remarkable success has helped Activision and TiMi Studios expand the title with continuous seasonal updates, bringing in a wealth of new content for older and newer players to enjoy. It accumulated its success by adding features such as classic game modes and weapons as well as fan-favorite maps from games across the series. This cultivated a fanbase with players who flocked to play all of their favorites in one title. That fandom is expected to grow, as a returning map is set to land in Call of Duty Mobile as a part of its second anniversary and possible Season 8.

Posted as an announcement on the official Call of Duty: Mobile Twitter account, Activision has revealed that Blackout, the franchise's very first Battle Royale map from Black Ops 4 is returning with later additions next week exclusively on Call of Duty Mobile. It will feature all of the iconic series locations including Raid and Nuketown Island, and a few of the later additions, such as Hijacked and Ghost Town. Though similar to Black Ops 4's map, Call of Duty Mobile's Blackout will play differently from the original. Activision has stated that "Some areas are nearly identical to their multiplayer incarnations, while others are only loosely based on their known environments," confirming that the map isn't identical. There is also no confirmation if Blackout is replacing Call of Duty: Mobile's existing battle royale map, or if it can be played as an addition, but players can expect more details prior to its release.

Call of Duty: Mobile Season 8 is just around the corner and fans are hyped to see what the developers have prepared. Previously, Activision has added new classic multiplayer maps, perks, scorestreaks, weapons, and even new game modes to Call of Duty: Mobile. Players are most importantly looking forward to another co-op mode, however, as its Undead Siege PvE co-op mode has been confirmed to be leaving at the end of the season, and possibly not making a return till next year in Season 9.

Blackout is an enormous map with iconic Call of Duty locations beloved by many fans of the series. Following Call of Duty: Mobile's release in October 2019, it's officially returning as a part of the game's second anniversary next week. Interested players can finally revisit the map that started it all, as they deploy and try to survive on the franchises original epochal Battle Royale map.
