Spoilers ahead for Cable Reloaded #1!

Marvel has just revealed that Cable views Cyclops' Summers Family as mutant royalty. In the special one-shot Cable Reloaded #1, on sale now in print and digital, the original Cable has returned, attempting to pick up where he left off. Along the way, he makes his thoughts on his teenage clone, and his family in general, known.

Cable is the former leader of X-Force; he is also the son of Scott Summers and Madelyene Pryor, a clone of Jean Grey. Born with psychic powers like his mother, he was infected with a techno-virus; he was sent to the future in an attempt to cure him. There, he would grow to become a great warrior and would return to the present day and reorganize the New Mutants into X-Force, who served as a militaristic counter to Professor X’s peaceful views. At the dawn of the era of Krakoa, Cable was killed and replaced by his teenage clone. Recently, the original Cable returned and helped his younger self take out Stryfe once and for all. Now, the older Cable is slowly reclaiming his life, and while at a SWORD facility, he makes a revelation about his family. Cable Reloaded #1 is written by Al Ewing, with art by Bob Quinn, colors by Java Tartaglia, and letters by Joe Sabino.

Cable is assisting Abigal Brand, SWORD’s Director, in her fight against Dormammu, who has taken control of Ego the Living Planet and is now waging war on the galaxy. During downtime, he reflects on his working relationship with Brand, concluding she is still working out how she feels about the “new old me,” as Cable puts it. His younger self also served with Brand and SWORD, and the original Cable realizes his younger self was a “political appointee,” given the position to keep the Summers family pleased.

Cable reflects on his family

At times, it felt as if most of Krakoa took a dim view of teen Cable. A lot of it may have been due to the fact that he was simply a younger, and inferior, version of Cable. The revelation that teen Cable only got the job because of his family reinforces this view. It also offers a fascinating insight into mutant society; in many ways, it mirrors our own, with prominent families and dynasties. Given how many there are, coupled with the important stories they have been part of, it makes sense the Summers clan would be one such family. Nepotism is an unfortunate part of our society, and it appears the same holds true on Krakoa.

Cable is part of the Summer Family, and he has revealed that they are perhaps the most prominent family on Krakoa. His teen clone enjoyed many benefits of Krakoan society simply because of his family.
