'Burn Notice' Sam Axe Prequel Film Premieres in April

Sam Axe Movie - Bruce Campbell

Sam Axe, Bruce Campbell's womanizing, mojito-loving, ex-Navy Seal, is one of the best parts of the hit USA Network show Burn Notice, so it was a no-brainer for Burn Notice creator Matt Nix to give the character his own spin-off TV movie.

As we previously reported, the two-hour TV movie is a prequel set in 2005. The film will follow Lieutenant Commander Sam Axe as he advises a local military platoon fighting against a faction of Colombian rebels. As he gets deeper into the mission, however, he uncovers "deep layers of deception" that make him question his role, and ultimately lead to him leaving the Marines.

How do I know all this? Because of the handy synopsis USA sent over to us, along with the fact that the official name for the movie is Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe. The movie premieres April 17th and is directed by Burn Notice star Jeffrey Donovan. Check out the full synopsis below.

Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe, starring Bruce Campbell, will premiere Sunday, April 17 at 9/8c on USA Network. The prequel film to USA's smash hit series takes place in Columbia 2005 when Lieutenant Commander Sam Axe (Campbell) is sent to advise a local military platoon. It's there he discovers deep layers of deception and ultimately realizes he may be allied with the wrong side.

I've actually fallen off the Burn Notice bandwagon a bit this season. It's not that I dislike the show - I just got caught up watching different new shows and it kind of slipped off my radar. That being said, I'll make a special note to watch The Fall of Sam Axe.

Jeffrey Donovan Will Direct Bruce Campbell in a Burn Notice Prequel Movie

Bruce Campbell is known for bringing great comic timing to his roles, and Matt Nix definitely gives him plenty of humorous scenes in the show. However, there are also many moments in the show where Sam is much more serious. Usually, this happens when he discusses something from his past.

This prequel movie will likely be lots of fun, but it will also help provide some important context for his character in the modern Burn Notice episodes. That's something that all Burn Notice fans should look forward to, and it's something that I'd be interested in seeing for other characters on the show as well.
