New Trailer for 'Buried'

Buried new trailer

Once all the explosive summer blockbusters have come and gone, we can look forward to some serious and up-close-and-personal movie fare to fill the Fall and Winter (read: films that are more likely to get Oscar attention). One of those is films is Buried, an upcoming psychological thriller starring Ryan Reynolds.

In case you couldn't surmise from the title, Buried is about a man who gets buried alive. But if you want a bit more than that to get you interested, here's the official synopsis:

“Paul is a U.S. contractor working in Iraq. After an attack by a group of Iraqis he wakes to find he is buried alive inside a coffin. With only a lighter and a cell phone it’s a race against time to escape this claustrophobic death trap.”

Now take a look at the awesome new trailer, which mixes the styles of Saul Bass (Vertigo, Psycho) with the panels of a comic book:

I've always dug films (get it?) that are set within just one location (12 Angry Men, Saw etc.) and it goes without saying that Buried takes that concept to the extreme. Films like Frank Darabont's Buried Alive and Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Vol.2 featured scenes of someone buried alive, but as far as we know, Buried is set entirely within the coffin.

In that way the film falls pretty squarely on the shoulder's of star Ryan Reynolds. He's become known as the action star (Blade: Trinity and the upcoming Green Lantern), the good-looking jokester (Van Wilder, Two Guys and a Girl) and the hunky rom-com leading man (The Proposal). Buried is a completely different challenge for the actor, but I'm sure he'll carry the film well.
