Buffy The Vampire Slayer is a landmark show, but where can it be seen online and is on Netflix, Hulu or Prime? Buffy Summers had an interesting journey to becoming a television icon. The character debuted in 1992 movie Buffy The Vampire Slayer, which starred Kristy Swanson in the lead role with Luke Perry and Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner) co-starring. The movie did average business and screenwriter Joss Whedon was unhappy with the final product, which watered down the humor and darkness of his original script. He also disliked working with Donald Sutherland, who improvised much of his dialogue as mentor Merrick and was (reportedly) not very pleasant to work with.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer got a second chance at life when Whedon was able to revisit the concept as a TV series in 1997. Sarah Michelle Gellar stepped into Buffy's shoes and a combination of the show's witty writing, likable cast, and rich mythology made it a runaway success. The show could be hilarious, scary and heartbreaking in equal measure, and it wasn't afraid to make its main characters suffer. It ran for seven seasons and spawned spinoff show Angel, several video games and a successful comic series. A Buffy The Vampire Slayer animated show was also developed but scrapped due to a lack of interest from other networks.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer still has a devoted following over fifteen years after it came off the air. For those who wish to revisit all 144 episodes - or those looking to start it for the very first time - all seven seasons can currently be streamed on Hulu. The series isn't available on Netflix or Prime in the U.S., though it's available to purchase from outlets like Google Play or iTunes.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 1 Cast

Midnight, Texas creator Monica Owusu-Breen is currently working on a reboot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Instead of recasting the title role, this new take is said to take place in the same world as the original show but will follow a new African-American slayer. It's unknown if any of the original cast will return, though if it takes place in the same universe, it feels like some familiar faces will probably appear. That said, fans shouldn't expect to see Sarah Michelle Gellar or David Boreanaz, as both have previously ruled out any kind of return.

Sarah Michelle Gellar feels Buffy's arc is uniquely related to the character's high school experiences, while Boreanaz just isn't a "reunion guy." While it would be nice to see some kind of Buffy The Vampire Slayer reunion, it looks doubtful Buffy herself will be a big part of any future show.
