Seth Green, who played the role of Daniel "Oz" Osbourne in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, left the show in season four but had a brief character arc in the comics that explored his character after the TV series ended.

Oz was a sensitive, pragmatic young man who was the guitarist for a rock band called Dingoes Ate My Baby. Eventually, he caught the romantic attention of Willow Rosenberg and became her first boyfriend. Though much of his relationship with Buffy and the Scooby Gang was through his relationship with Willow, the stoic musician ended up revealing that he had connections to the supernatural as well: he is a werewolf. Oz always took precautionary measures to keep himself locked up and secured during the full moon, and because of this, never earned himself an enemy in Buffy. However, his break-up with Willow - and brief departure from the series - ended up in a heartbreaking return when he discovered that Willow had fallen in love with someone else, Tara Maclay.

After wishing his ex well, Oz was finished with Buffy the Vampire Slayer for good; Seth Green was written off the show, and while there was certainly always an opening for Joss Whedon to bring his character back, he was only ever featured in one episode of the spin-off series, Angel. However, Oz ended up having a brief story arc in season eight of the Dark Horse comics that continued the story of Buffy and her friends after the series finale in 2003.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: What Happened To Oz?

In the show, Oz was always primarily dedicated to learning how to find and control his lycanthropy. While other supernatural-driven television series, such as True Bloodhave featured werewolf characters who embrace their identity, live in packs, and can experience full lives with their condition, Oz always seemed to consider it a burden. In season four, tensions between Oz and Willow came to a head when he met a female werewolf named Veruca, who fully embraced her wolf and discouraged Oz from locking himself up in a cage during the full moon, stating that it went against their nature. His departure from the show hinted at him continuing his attempts to control the beast within him, as he had learned through meditation and other more holistic practices how to keep the transformation at bay before losing control upon being heartbroken that Willow had fallen in love with someone else.

As Buffy the Vampire Slayer canon continued through the comics, Oz ended up making an appearance in season eight when Buffy and the other Slayers find him in Tibet and ask for his assistance in suppressing their powers in order to evade a new threat known as Twilight. It is through this reconciliation that Oz is discovered to have settled down with another werewolf named Bayarmaa and the two have a son, Kelden. It's the happy ending that fans would have wanted for the character, who was always sweet and giving despite his inherent nature that kept him from being entirely at peace. In the story arc, "Retreat", Oz seems to be happy and fulfilled with his family and even leads a pack of wolves who share the same belief system as he. Even so, Oz is willing to take risks in order to help Buffy and be part of the Scooby Gang - at least on a temporary level - once again, given their history.

Eventually, the Scoobies and Oz part ways again, and he stays with his family and his pack, presumably to have a happy life living in relative solitude now that he has fully learned how to control his instincts and keep the beast at bay through his dedication to spend his life living peacefully and communing with nature.
