In a funny design mishap, Matt Smith's Doctor Who character is prominently featured on a 2022 calendar for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. First appearing in 2010, Smith, the Eleventh Doctor, replaced fan-favorite Time Lord David Tennant. Although many considered following Tennant to be an impossible task, Smith is largely considered to have lived up to the high expectations set by his predecessor. Smith remained on the show for three seasons with his last regular appearance coming in 2013.

With a fan base perhaps equally as passionate, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a staple of American television, airing seven popular seasons between 1997 and 2003. Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as the titular Buffy, the series followed Buffy's adventures vanquishing vampires and other demonic creatures with the help of a group of friends played by Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendon, and Anthony Head. A revival of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was announced in 2018 but reports of original series creator Joss Whedon's toxic on-set behavior may have killed the series' chances, with no updates being released on the show for quite some time.

In a funny new Tweet from Alex McLevy, she points out a glaring mistake on a 2022 Buffy the Vampire Slayer calendar. In addition to featuring Gellar's Buffy and her host of companions, the calendar also prominently features Smith's Eleventh Doctor. Levy includes the funny caption: "I’d like to thank the makers of the 2022 BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER calendar for obviously being devoted, passionate fans of the show who can readily identify all the most iconic characters." As McLevy points out, the mistake could stem from the calendar's designer not being familiar with either Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Doctor Who. Considering the popularity of both shows, however, it's hard to believe such a glaring error could be made at all without at least some level of intention. Taking into account the fact that multiple sets of eyes likely had to look at the calendar before approval, it's surprising that the mistake wasn't caught earlier.

While Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans would probably be confused or disappointed upon opening up their calendar and finding a character that isn't actually from the show featured so prominently, people who are fans of both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Doctor Who would likely find the calendar highly amusing. The mistake is so glaring and obvious that it actually gives the calendar a certain level of charm. In fact, a crossover between Doctor Who and Buffy the Vampire Slayer might actually not be such a bad idea at all.
