There are some shocking moments in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, including at the end of season 2 when viewers aren't sure if they will ever see Buffy again.

Redditor mookymix said, "If you watched it as part of the original run, then Becoming part 2" is a sad episode because fans were still waiting to see if the show would come back for a third season. The season 2 finale is absolutely devastating, with Buffy trying to stop Angelus from killing people and ruining the world. Buffy saves the world and tells Angel that she loves him and then runs away from Sunnydale, unable to deal with her strong emotions and guilt over Kendra's death.

"Spiral" (S5, E20)

Redditor Taashaaaa called "Spiral" "heartwrenching" and because of "watching Buffy break down." At the end of the episode, Buffy realizes that she hasn't been able to save Dawn from Glory, and she can't handle the sadness and guilt.

"The Body" (S2, E16)

Many fans agree with this, as it's awful watching Buffy walk into her house and see Joyce lying on the couch and not moving at all. When Buffy takes her to the hospital, the doctors say that she has passed away from an aneurysm. Buffy, Dawn, and the rest of the characters are totally stunned by these horrible events and they each work through their grief in their own way.

"Forever" (S2, E17)

While Joyce isn't always the best mom on Buffy, she cares so much about Buffy and Dawn, and watching the characters come to terms with their new normal in the season 2 episode "Forever" is really upsetting.

Redditor Gneissisnice said that the episode after "The Body" is incredibly sad because "it shows the aftermath of Joyce's death. Buffy appears uncaring because otherwise she'll fall apart." The episode is relatable as some people like to talk after a loved one's death and others need a bit of alone time so they can process their feelings.

"The Weight Of The World" (S5, E21)

Fans find season 5 to be an especially emotional group of episodes, and in "The Weight of the World," viewers are on the edge of their seats as Glory has taken Dawn. Buffy becomes catatonic and Willow casts a spell to attempt to help.

One Redditor finds it sad when Willow "sees Buffys guilt for feeling relieved at Dawns potential death, and therefore her own." While Buffy and Dawn have never had an easy and fun relationship, fans know that Buffy feels responsible for her sister at all times.

Season 1 of Buffy The Vampire Slayer improves, and most of all, fans learn that Buffy feels a massive sense of duty and responsibility to save the world from evil vampires and demons.

Redditor LindsayRyan18 posted that one of the saddest scenes in Buffy is when Buffy says, "Giles, I'm 16 years old. I don't wanna die" in the season 1 finale "Prophecy Girl." While Buffy has seemed tough up until this point, she's now realizing that her time as a slayer is definitely dangerous, and she's unsure if she can handle it.

"The Gift" (S5, E22)

It's hard to think of a more emotional episode than this one, as Dawn wants to go into the portal and die so Buffy can be saved, but Buffy decides to die instead so she can let her sister live. While viewers know that Buffy doesn't stay dead, it's still hard to imagine how the other characters will go on without their beloved friend and sister, and Buffy's choice is incredibly powerful. It's a tough reminder of how Buffy is often attempting to save the world, which is such a heavy burden.

"Once More With Feeling" (S6, E7)
