'Buffy' Stars Cordelia & Spike to Guest in 'Supernatural' Season 7

Season 6 of Supernatural certainly had its share of low points – the “Mother of All” was more like the most disappointing villain of all – but it also had its share of extremely high points (not the least of which was the ending - as a certain character became an evil god).

Even though the season 7 premiere is more than a month away, today we have news that Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel regulars Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia) and James Marsters (Spike) will be guest-starring later in the season - in the episode “Shut Up, Dr. Phil.”

TV Line talked to showrunner Sera Gamble about the episode. Regarding what we can expect from “Shut Up, Dr. Phil,” Gamble said:

"This episode is Bewitched gone wrong. [It was] all upside for this successful man [played by Marsters] while he was married to the witch [played by Carpenter], but now that he's pissed her off, the whole town is paying the price."

TVL also talked to Charisma Carpenter about her September 1st Burn Notice appearance and got a quote about Supernatural as well:

"My people called me yesterday to see if I wanted to do it and I’m like, 'Yeah, I'd love to go to Vancouver in the summer!' It’s probably one of my all-time favorite cities."

Unbeknownst to Charisma Carpenter at the time of the interview, she’ll be acting opposite her ex-Buffy/Angel co-star James Marsters. Since Angel, Charisma has acted in a number of projects – including Veronica Mars season two and The Expendables – while James Marsters has been in Caprica, Smallville, and Hawaii 5-0. This will be the first time they've acted onscreen together since Angel.

Fans of both Angel and Supernatural will no doubt already be keenly aware that the shows share Ben Edlund as a writer – famous for all manner of Supernatural episodes, as well as the famous “Muppet David Boreanaz” episode of Angel (otherwise known as “Smile Time").

Additionally, Amber Benson (Tara on Buffy), Mercedes McNab (Harmony on Buffy/Angel), and Amy Acker (Fred on Angel) have previously played vampires and a sad widow, respectively, on Supernatural. So this revelation doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, especially when you consider the fan overlap between the shows.

Are you guys looking forward to season 7 as much as we are? Are you Buffy/Angel fans excited to see Cordelia and Spike reunited? Let us know in the comments.

Supernatural premieres Friday, September 23rd @9pm on the CW.
