As a decade of the MCU comes together for Avengers: Infinity War, fans have been promised some huge pairings between some major superheroes - but has anyone ever wondered what will happen when Bucky Barnes meets Rocket Racoon?

Sebastian Stan has played the long-haired antihero since Captain America: The First Avenger and undergone one of the biggest story arcs of anyone in the franchise thanks to his role in the Captain America movies. Elsewhere, Bradley Cooper has provided the voice for the foul-mouthed trash-panda in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy movies, and will do so yet again during Infinity War.

Speaking to Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie during our visit to the Avengers: Infinity War set, Screen Rant asked the man behind the Winter Soldier how Barnes would feel meeting a genetically-engineered raccoon:

Sebastian Stan: As usual I question my own stability, mentally and wonder whether or not I should have just stayed asleep. Things clearly did not get better.

Anthony Mackie: They did not work out well!

Thor with Rocket and Groot in Avengers Infinity War

The stars confirmed that James Buchanan Barnes will meet with Rocket at some point in Infinity War, but it doesn't sound like things go well for either of them. The final Infinity War trailer shows shows Tony Stark and Peter Quill's egos clashing, and Bucky and Rocket are on equally opposite ends of the spectrum. Bucky is usually pretty serious, whereas Rocket is a bit of a joker among the Guardians. However, with neither character having particularly happy backstories, it could be this that brings them together.

Bucky "took a nap" after the events of Captain America: Civil War (read: he went into cryogenic storage until his psychic conditioning under Hydra could be undone), but has since awoken from his slumber in Wakanda, and will be fighting for the side of good against Thanos. With the final third of Infinity War reported to take place in Wakanda, this is when the Winter Soldier will really get a chance to shine with his fancy new arm. Meanwhile, the Guardians know the most about Thanos going into the film, and will presumably lend a helping hand to Buck and the others during their climactic battle with The Mad Titan.

With Bucky now set to serve as the MCU's White Wolf and Rocket expected to return for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3., neither character ranks particularly high on the Infinity War dead pool. Just like the blossoming bromance between Thor, Hulk, and the rest of the Revengers, Bucky and Rocket may yet become the best of friends with time. If not then, well, Bucky has much bigger fish to fry than a wise-cracking raccoon with a gun.
