On the heels of the script being finished, Keanu Reeves opens up about potentially directing his BRZRKR movie adaptation. Based on the comic book of the same name he created with Matt Kindt and Ron Garney, the sci-fi/fantasy project centers on the titular warrior, afflicted with the ability of immortality. BRZRKR follows its central character as he participates in a variety of wars and bloodshed while grappling with his inability to die.

Development on a BRZRKR movie adaptation was announced just weeks after the Kickstarter-funded comic book launched, with Netflix acquiring the rights to both a live-action film and sequel anime series, with Reeves set to star in both. Mattson Tomlin, who went uncredited for his The Batman work and is co-writing The Batman 2 with director Matt Reeves, is set to script the live-action movie. Tomlin has shared updates on the script's development in the year since he was hired, having recently confirmed he finished writing the BRZRKR movie, and now the man at the helm has thoughts on who could continue leading the charge.

While speaking with Collider to discuss the comic book franchise, Keanu Reeves offered some insight for the highly anticipated BRZRKR movie adaptation. The creator/star noted he had yet to read the script for the movie, which was recently confirmed to be finished, but hinted there's a "33 percent" chance he'll direct it himself. See what Reeves said about possibly directing it below:

I know how it's a lot of work, but the film that I directed, Man of Tai Chi, was born, I became the director because I was part of the writing process, and I didn't want to hand it over. I was like, oh, okay. I have to direct this. I'm not quite there yet on ‘BRZRKR’. I have to read the script, but I'm also interested in having a collaborator and what they could bring to it.

Why Keanu Reeves Directing BRZRKR Would Be Perfect

As he notes above, Reeves currently only has one directorial credit to his name across his near-40-year career with 2013's Man of Tai Chi, in which he also starred as the film's main antagonist, a crime lord hosting an illegal fighting operation in Hong Kong. Though having bombed at the box office, the action-thriller scored generally favorable reviews from critics, with much of the praise aimed at Reeves' impressive directorial skills in his debut outing, seemingly setting up a promising future for him in the director's chair. It's unclear why Reeves has yet to get back to directing in the decade since Man of Tai Chi came out, though given his personal ties to BRZRKR and push for the various adaptations, he would be the perfect candidate to direct the movie.

Outside of being the comic book's creator, Reeves would also be the perfect choice to direct BRZRKR for the extent of his experience in the action genre. Having worked with some of the most acclaimed filmmakers and stunt performers over the years, including The Matrix's Wachowski siblings and John Wick's Chad Stahelski, Reeves is sure to have absorbed a large amount of experience-by-proxy in helming a variety of styles of action for film. While audiences await word on whether Reeves will helm his BRZRKR movie, they can look forward to his genre return with John Wick: Chapter 4 set to hit theaters on March 24.
