A teaser trailer for the upcoming final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine has paid homage to the iconic opening logo of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The cop comedy starring Andy Samberg as Detective Jake Peralta debuted on FOX all the way back in 2013. Brooklyn Nine-Nine was infamously canceled by FOX after its fifth season but was picked up just one day later by NBC after a huge social media campaign to save the show. This sitcom, which was co-created by Parks and Recreation’s Dan Goor and Mike Schur, has earned a massive cult following over the past eight years. This is due to its loveable ensemble cast, compelling core relationships, and its ability to tackle sensitive subjects while still remaining a relatively light-hearted comedy.

It was announced back in February that the eighth season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine would be the show’s last, bringing the sitcom to a truly impressive total of 153 episodes. Now, fans are eagerly anticipating the eighth and final season of the comedy series, which premieres with two back-to-back episodes on NBC on August 12th. The Brooklyn Nine-Nine Instagram account recently revealed the official poster for the final season with a video of Joel McKinnon Miller (who plays Detective Scully) assembling a puzzle that gave fans a first look at season 8.

Though the "Schur-niverse" of beloved sitcoms isn’t quite as huge as the MCU, it’s no wonder that Brooklyn Nine-Nine wanted to pay homage to their iconic opening credits in order to effectively build hype for season 8. The epic music and visuals indicate that the sitcom plans to go out in a blaze of glory, taking advantage of the opportunity to end on its own terms. The MCU tribute is also a subtle callback to the latest heist episode, season 7's "Valloweaster," which featured a knock-off Infinity Gauntlet.

Details about the final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine have largely been kept classified so far in order to surprise fans, but both the cast and writing team have previously stated that the season will address the Black Lives Matter movement and issues of systemic inequality. Beyond that, fans can look forward to seeing Jake and Amy (Melissa Fumero) adjusting to life as new parents. This may be the last ride for the detectives of the 99th precinct, but the new teaser trailer for season 8 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine makes it all the more certain that the highly anticipated final season will live up to the hype.
