The groundbreaking show does this by displaying some uplifting friendship duos. Jake, the character played by Andy Samberg, is a common factor in two of the ultimate bromances that fans have come across in sitcom history.
Jake's relationship with colleague Charles is truly heartwarming where they have each other's back all the time. A serious contender to this is the Jake-Doug duo, who meets up only once in the season but displays an incredible dynamic in that limited time.
Jake And Charles: The 'Riggity Riggity Role Play' As French Cat Burglars
Jake was back from the hideout at Coral Palms, and his first investigation on return was a B&E at a jewelry store with Charles. They made up a backstory and role-played as cat burglars on vacation from France.
Charles' obsession with his backstory involving STDs and Jake's preference of him going to an 'elite international school' were mutually supported by the detectives. Fans really loved the hilarious way in which they fleshed out their characters in a such a supportive way.
Jake And Doug: Bros In Robes
Despite Doug screwing up a deal with Jake in the first season, the detective makes another deal with him in the second season when Doug promises them that he will help them catch a big shot. As a part of the deal, Doug demands a stay at a four-star hotel.
It is there that Jake and Doug order fancy food and dress up in robes as they sang, "Reunited, and it feels so good"to the music in the background. The chemistry between them is insane in that scene.
Jake And Charles: Peralta Trusts Boyle's Hunches
In the third episode of Season 3, Charles encounters Genevieve at court, where she was sent to prison for robbing her art gallery. Charles had a hunch that she didn't do it, and he, along with Jake, reinvestigated the case to acquit Genevieve of her crime.
The investigation didn't give them any evidence initially to free Genevieve, which disappointed Boyle as he thought she was the one. But Jake didn't give up and found out that Genevieve was framed and helped her get out of prison.
Jake And Doug: When Negotiator Jake Turned Hostage
Doug created a hostage situation in a jewelry store and demanded Jake be the negotiator. Although Jake was initially shocked, he realized that Doug's motive was to save his mother from Halloway, a big shot criminal trying to kill her.
Jake totally cooperated with Judy for the plan and stated that he loves Doug's mom. Jake and Doug keep appreciating each other in this episode which is followed by a hilarious fist bump that raises up the bromance quotient.
Jake And Charles: The Farewell Sequence In The Car
The precinct was in danger of shutting down at a point, and all the detectives were emotional about splitting up. Jake and Charles geared up for their final case and were staking out a heroin deal from their car.
They realized during the stakeout that the precinct would shut down soon, and discussed how amazing a partner they were to each other and they got all emotional. So emotional that they had to hold up the binoculars to hide their crying faces.
Jake And Doug: Doug Asked Jake To Be His Best Man
Jake arrested all of Doug's crook friends at his Bachelor party. It was only later that he realized that all of it was a setup made by Doug to get rid of his friends with criminal backgrounds and to get Jake to be his best man.
Jake was extremely happy and excited by this request and accepted it wholeheartedly.
Jake And Charles: When Charles Went To His Nemesis While Jake Was In Need
Viewers are quite aware of Charles's hatred for Peanut Butter or Sergeant Peanut Butter, the NYPD horse. Peanut Butter had upstaged Charles while he was receiving the medal of valor. Later, Charles was humiliated in front of the public when the media posted a picture of Peanut Butter dragging him from a building with the caption ‘Stud horse saves small man.'
However, when Jake was in need to reach the hospital for witnessing the birth of his baby, Charles sought the help of Peanut Butter to take Jake to Amy in the congested traffic
Jake And Doug: The De Niro Impersonation
Jake teams up with Doug to catch Doug's foster brother, who escaped prison. During the mission, Jake, Doug, and Raymond were making up a backstory. Jake started talking in an Italian accent by imitating De Niro from Meet The Parents, after which Doug also started doing the same.
The viewers of the show have encountered similar instances very often before as well when both of them catch each other's references very quickly and easily.
Jake And Charles: The Perfect Best Man For Each Other
Fans of the show found it very heartwarming to see how seriously both Jake and Charles took their best man duties. They went above and beyond to show their affection for each other when they took on the important role of the best man.
While Charles went out of his way to set up a treasure hunt-themed bachelor party with characters from Jake's all-time favorite movie, Die Hard, and a last-minute venue for Jake and Amy's wedding, Jake made Charles a 'fancy brudgom' (Danish for fancy groom) just the way he aspired to be.
Jake And Doug: Karaoke
In season five's 13th episode, Jake and Doug get some free time at a karaoke room in the middle of their mission to catch Halloway. They felt weird sitting silently in a private karaoke room without singing and broke into performing the song "What's Up."
In the later part of the episode, the viewers see Jake returning to the karaoke room to find the diamonds that Doug wanted to return. Here, Jake again sings with a pre-recorded video of Doug.
