Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the funniest workplace comedies on television, thanks to its hilarious writing and lovable characters. Often described as "Parks and Recreation with cops", the show has gained a massive following and is one of the most liked sitcoms today. The show is currently under production for Season 8.

The show is full of hilarious and iconic side characters that make up the crazy world of the show, and while most of them are loved by fans, there are some characters than didn't sit well with fans. Here are 5 annoying side characters, and 5 characters everybody loved.

Annoying - Teddy Wells

Teddy was one of Amy's ex-boyfriends, who she broke up because, well, he was extremely annoying. The character never really clicked with fans for the simple fact that he was a hindrance to Jake and Amy's eventual romance.

He didn't have any funny lines and wasn't that interesting, and his love for pilsners, which was a minor quirk in earlier seasons, basically replaced his personality going forward. Now the character just pops up and proposes to Amy.

Loved - Doug Judy

Doug Judy is such a great character he deserves a spinoff show of his own. The show made it a tradition to have an annual Doug Judy episode, along with the Halloween Heist, and fans can't get enough of him.

He's the same as Jake and yet is the exact opposite, while Jake becomes a cop, Judy becomes a criminal. His character arc, which comprises of multiple seasons, is also amazing, turning from a crook to helping Jake nab thieves.

Annoying - CJ

CJ stands at Captain's pedastal shrugging

CJ isn't a bad character - all his appearances are hilarious and not one of his lines fails to get a laugh. But the character is both underutilized and oversaturated, to the point where his personality is just "being the dumb one" (a role Hitchcock and Scully already play).

The character was fine as long as it was used as filler for Captain Holt, but his later appearances in episodes such as "Suicide Squad" didn't add much to the story, and his "dumbness" got dialed to 11.

Loved - Wuntch

Madeline Wuntch looking serious in Brooklyn Nine Nine

Wuntch is one of the best villains of the show - her appearances are always fun and bring out a hilarious side of Captain Holt fans rarely see. All of her appearances have an impact on the storyline of the show - whether it's her promoting Holt to the desk job or her demoting him to a beat cop.

However, Holt and Wuntch's relationship doesn't grow beyond petty squabbling, and the one time they grudgingly worked together in "Suicide Squad", Wuntch undid it by demoting Holt. The writers even managed to make her death in a heartfelt way, where Holt confesses how much impact Wuntch had on him.

Annoying - Fire Marshall Boone

brooklyn-99-boone

Fire Marshall Boone isn't a recurring character - he was seen in the season 1 episode, "Sal's Pizza" when he went toe-to-toe against Jake in an arson case, and once in a cold opening when cops play football against firefighters.

Although Patton Oswalt played the character to perfection, the character itself didn't offer much - he wasn't particularly funny, and he didn't add to anything in the show.

Loved - The Vulture

The Vulture looking serious on Brooklyn Nine-Nine

The Vulture has been another recurring character, with appearances going back to season 1. Another hilarious character, the Vulture has had some of the funniest storylines, such as him "vulturing" Jake and Amy's venue (and telling his fiance that everybody calls him "The Eagle" at work.).

However, the character is often better in small doses, as some fans disliked the storyline of him becoming Captain of the 99. The Vulture was nowhere to be seen in Season 7, and fans are waiting for him to show up in the much-awaited season 8.

Annoying - Roger Peralta

Jake has a rocky relationship with his father - Roger was constantly cheating on Jake's mom and left them all alone. After reconnecting and meeting up, he lets down Jake yet again, in the season 2 episode, "Captain Peralta".

The character is strongly disliked by fans because of how he treated Jake and his mom, and how he continues to be a playboy. He was seen at Jake's child's Gender Reveal Party, where he somehow managed to cut off another one of his thumbs.

Loved - Kevin

Marc Evan Jackson as Kevin Cozner in Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Marc Evan Jackson makes an appearance in almost every Michael Schur sitcom, from Parks and Recreation to The Good Place. In Brooklyn Nine-Nine, he portrays Kevin Cozner, Captain Holt's husband. Although quite similar, both have distinct personalities. Not once does it feel like the two characters are copies of each other.

Kevin's appearances are often quite funny, and sometimes even serious, such as when Holt got mugged and hid it from Kevin, or when a mafia leader threatened Kevin and he had to be hidden in a safe house for months.

Annoying - Debbie

Portrayed by SNL alum Vanessa Bayer, Debbie was introduced in season 7 as a beat cop working in the 99th precinct. Although Bayer's performance as the crazy Debbie was spot-on, the character didn't click with fans.

Debbie was never a funny character and didn't seem to have any redeemable qualities. In "Debbie", she steals guns and cocaine from the precinct and holds Rosa and Jake hostage when she gets offered some money by a mob boss. And although she chooses to help the police in the end, the character wasn't liked.

Loved - Pimento

Jason Mantzoukas as Adrian Pimento in Brooklyn Nine Nine

Adrian Pimento is one of the most hilarious characters in the show, not to mention one with the weirdest backstory. He's constantly providing gory and gruesome details of his past as an undercover agent, and he's violent and extreme, but not once does it feel unfunny or weird.

Jason Mantzoukas plays Pimento, and he does it to perfection. Pimento was last seen in the season 7 episode, "Pimemento", where he has lost his memory from being drugged by his doctor. It sounds dark, but the show manages to make it hilarious.
