Frieza is a villain who has plagued the Dragon Ball universe for decades as his presence has been felt from the beginning of Z to the latest chapters of Super, though right from the start, Frieza himself admitted how he was going to ultimately be defeated–fans just didn’t realize he was talking about Broly, not Goku or Vegeta (or even Trunks).

Before he even appeared on panel, Frieza was revealed to be the overarching antagonist for the entire series up until that point. Frieza owned the Saiyans before he eradicated their planet, and he used them to conquer other worlds in his name, with weaker planets being handled by Saiyan babies as a way to train them while also growing Frieza’s empire. One of these Saiyan infants was Goku. This is how Goku got to Earth, and in turn, how the entire events of Dragon Ball unfolded. From there, Goku learned to use his Saiyan powers for good and eventually faced off against Frieza in battle after unlocking the fabled transformation of Super Saiyan. Then, when Frieza was revealed to have survived that battle upon his arrival on Earth a few chapters later, Future Trunks murdered him while in his Super Saiyan form. Unfortunately, that death wouldn’t last as Frieza is currently at large in Dragon Ball Super, and he’s stronger than ever–at least, for now.

Broly is the Legendary Super Saiyan Frieza is Scared of, Not Goku or Vegeta

Broly vs Frieza from Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

In Dragon Ball chapter 264 by Akira Toriyama, Frieza admits that he feels uneasy, perhaps even a little scared as he’s being challenged by rogue Saiyans. Years earlier, Frieza had a vision of his ultimate death–and while the specifics were hazy, he was sure that it would be by the hand of a ‘fabled’ or ‘legendary’ Super Saiyan. Once Frieza’s tenure in Dragon Ball Z came to a brutal end, fans simply chalked Frieza’s vision up to being about either Goku or Trunks (or a combination of the two) as Goku brought an end to Frieza’s rule while Trunks landed the finishing blow. However, those two defeats obviously weren’t the end of Frieza as he is currently running around Dragon Ball Super’s continuity unlocking untold levels of power, which means another ‘legendary’ Super Saiyan will have to be the one to kill him–and it has to be Broly, for one obvious reason.

When Frieza said he would be taken down by the ‘legendary’ Super Saiyan, he and fans alike thought he was just referring to the transformation itself–like any Super Saiyan is legendary. However, fans now know that is not the case. The term ‘Legendary Super Saiyan’ refers to a very specific type of Saiyan, one born every one thousand years–and Broly is one of them. If Frieza is to be killed by a Legendary Super Saiyan, as his original vision suggests, then Broly is the only one in Universe 7 to do it–and based on his shared history with Frieza, he will have every reason to when the time finally comes.

Broly is currently training with Goku and Vegeta under the tutelage of Whis and Lord Beerus after the events of his film, Dragon Ball Super: Broly. In that movie, Frieza kills Broly’s father–his only family–just to make him angrier during his battle with Vegeta and Goku. Not only that, but Broly has been alone all his life with no one by his side except his father, and that’s all Frieza’s fault too as he was the one who destroyed Planet Vegeta all those years ago. In short, Broly is the Legendary Super Saiyan Frieza has been scared of for decades, he is training with angels and gods to unlock god ki, and he has a deep-seated grudge against Frieza. This means that Broly will be the Dragon Ball fighter to kill Frieza for good when the time finally comes, not Goku or Vegeta–and Frieza unwittingly admitted it himself all those years ago.
