Brie Larson reveals she originally turned down the Captain Marvel movie. The actress is best known now for playing the role of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, in the MCU. Captain Marvel grossed $1 billion at the box office and was Marvel's first female-led film.

Larson has been refreshingly open about her past audition failures before landing the role of Captain Marvel. It seems like the actress auditioned for multiple major movie franchises over the years. Not only did Larson audition for all the new Star Wars films, but she also tried out for Terminator Genisys, Thor, and Iron Man 2Fate, or rather the right movie role for Larson had other plans, and she failed to land a part in any of the aforementioned films.

Ironically, Larson revealed in her video Audition Storytime! (Pt. 2) that she originally turned down Captain Marvel twice. However, it was for quite a relatable reason. Larson felt incredibly anxious taking on such a big role. Check out what Larson had to say about the matter below.

"I remember getting a call when I was shooting 'Kong.' ...And I remember they [Larson's team] called and they said, 'Marvel is interested in you playing Captain Marvel.' And I was like, oh I can't do that, I have too much anxiety. That's too much for me, I don't think I can handle that, and I was like, so tell them no. And my team was like, 'Okay for sure.' I think a couple months later they were like, 'Hey they [Marvel] called again are you sure,' and I was like, yeah, I'm too much of an introvert."

Brie Larson as Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel

Larson noted that her team never actually told Marvel no, so she finally sat down with the Captain Marvel production team for a pitch meeting. "I was very moved by what they were trying to achieve, what they were talking about, and it felt very progressive." Obviously Larson did eventually accept the part, and she did a great job with the role. The Captain Marvel movie had huge expectations to fulfill by premiering one month before the highly anticipated Avengers: EndgameWith Larson at the helm, Captain Marvel was critically acclaimed, with Larson reprising her role seamlessly in the grand MCU finale of the Infinity Saga. As Larson notes in her video, one thing that really impressed her about the production team for Captain Marvel was the fact they made sure to include female writers and a female director for the film. It looks like they'll be keeping this up with Nia DaCosta taking over the directorial helm for Captain Marvel 2

It's definitely hard to imagine anyone else but Brie Larson in Captain Marvel. She did a fantastic job of balancing Carol's humanity with her brainwashed Kree side. The scene where she finally breaks free of the Supreme Leader's clutches and embraces her full power is truly inspiring, especially knowing now that Larson overcame her own anxieties to take on the role. It will definitely be interesting to see where she takes the character next in Captain Marvel 2 in 2022.
