Netflix's Bridgerton season 2 has finished filming, as confirmed by showrunner Chris Van Dusen on Twitter. The Regency-era period drama follows the lives of London's high society, with their impropriety and romances reported on by Lady Whistledown, an anonymous gossip writer who uses the platform to manipulate and cause scandal for the aristocracy. The series proved enormously popular for the streaming service, so much so that Bridgerton season 1 quickly became one of Netflix's biggest shows, earning a selection of accolades and nominations, including a nomination for an Emmy.

The show, which follows the book series by author Julia Quinn, will shift focus in season 2, following the life of a different sibling of the titular Bridgerton family. While season 1 followed Daphne Bridgerton's romance with the Duke of Hastings, Bridgerton season 2 will instead build on the eldest child and family title-holder Anthony Bridgerton's romantic endeavours. While the responsibility for finding his sisters a suitable partner falls on his shoulders, Anthony himself refuses to marry and instead pursues a star-crossed secret relationship with opera singer Siena. Returning as Anthony Bridgerton for season 2 is Broadchurch actor Jonathan Bailey, while joining the cast is Sex Education's Simone Ashley, who will play Anthony's latest love interest Kate Sharma.

Thanks to a recent Twitter post by Dusen, the wait likely won't be too long to see what happens between Anthony and Kate. Dusen, pictured alongside Bailey and Ashley, confirmed in the tweet that Bridgerton season 2 has finished filming. The director also thanked the cast and crew for bringing their hard work in what he considers a challenging year. While no release date was confirmed in the tweet, Dusen ended the post by saying that Bridgerton season 2 is coming in 2022.

While still a difficult time due to COVID-19 restrictions continuing to pressure media production, Dusen thanking the cast and crew for bringing their A-game shows just how committed they are at making Bridgerton season 2 every bit as good as the show's initial outing. Dusen has also continued to tease fans in the tweet by including the bee emoji, which eagle-eyed readers of the books will have spotted several times across season 1. The bee is more than just an Easter egg, as the insect has a much greater symbolic meaning to the Bridgerton family. It also reiterates that season 2 of the show will, at least partly, adapt the second novel The Viscount Who Loved Me, in which Anthony and Kate have a bee-related incident that pushes the pair closer together.

It's hard to imagine that Netflix could have imagined Bridgerton would have been this popular. With eight novels in the series and eight Bridgerton children, the show could potentially run for years - especially if Shonda Rhimes gets her way after she confirmed wanting Bridgerton to at least last as long as the books. This formula should help dissolve any worries that the departure of Regé-Jean Page's very popular Duke of Hasting will have greater repercussions for the show. His character was always going to have less involvement going forward, and with future seasons focusing on the other Bridgerton children's scandalous relationships, the show looks to be a mainstay for at least the foreseeable future.
