Bridgerton has officially been renewed for a second season at Netflix, which will begin filming this spring. The historical romance saga, based on Julia Quinn’s popular series of novels, became an instant classic for the streamer when season 1 released in December of 2020. Now, fans can look forward to more romance, secrets, marriages and affairs coming soon.

In a very short amount of time, Bridgerton has already ascended into the upper echelon of Netflix original series. The blend of stunning outfits and visual production, compelling personal drama and a stellar ensemble cast captured the hearts of many viewers, even those who typically might not venture into the realm of historical romance. With many more books in Quinn’s series to adapt, the show could have a very long life on Netflix if its popularity keeps up.

Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait long for the next installment to arrive. Bridgerton has been officially renewed for a second season, which is aiming for a filming start this spring. That quick turnaround will hopefully deliver part two of the series to Netflix later this year, continuing the story of the Bridgerton family and their various friends and relations. Season 2 will focus on Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest of the eight eponymous children. Presumably, that means the show will be staying pretty close to Quinn’s books, as the second novel The Viscount Who Loved Me also focuses on Anthony. Netflix announced the news on the official Bridgerton Twitter account.

Though fans of the books should be excited to know that each season seems to be following the corresponding novel, those who haven’t read Quinn’s version may be a bit put off at first. Much of the zeitgeist of Bridgerton season 1 revolved around Simon and Daphne specifically, their unique onscreen chemistry, and the intricacies of their relationship. While the Duke and Duchess will both remain prominent characters in season 2, the shift of making Anthony the core protagonist may take a bit of an adjustment for some.

Fortunately, the cast of Bridgerton is more than capable of tackling Quinn’s rotating protagonist structure. Each of the siblings and their various acquaintances established distinct personas and relationships with one another in season 1, and that engaging web of characters will only expand with time. Now that Simon and Daphne have found happiness, it seems it’s time to find Anthony a match. There’s surely plenty of drama and romance to come in Bridgerton season 2.
