Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey hopes to see the show return by Christmas 2021. Bailey plays Viscount Anthony Bridgerton in the hit Netflix show. Season 1 saw his character overseeing the courtship of his sister, Daphne, but season 2 will follow Bailey's character and his own romantic journey. The show is based on the Julia Quinn romance novels, and each one follows a Bridgerton sibling as they search for love in Regency era London.

Bridgerton, which premiered on Christmas Day 2020, quickly became a massive hit for Netflix. Soon after its launch, the streamer projected the show would reach more than 60 million households in its first month, becoming one of its best original series launches of all time. Those numbers were updated a few weeks later, with Bridgerton actually becoming Netflix's biggest original show. The streamer reports its numbers itself, making it different than TV networks or other platforms, but Bridgerton has dominated both Netflix's Top 10 chart and the internet itself in the weeks since its release.

A season 2 renewal was all but guaranteed, and it was eventually confirmed Bridgerton will be back, with a spring production start date. Bailey told EW he hopes the show is able to return to screens by the end of this year. The actor stated, "We'll all be back for more romance, hopefully next Christmas, maybe further away."

Netflix's fast tracking of Bridgerton season 2 sure makes it seem like the streamer is aiming to repeat the magic of the season 1 holiday premiere. Christmas is the perfect date for a few reasons. For one, the show's romantic sentiments are perfect Christmastime fodder. It also helps that over the holidays, many people are home for a few weeks with nothing to do but binge watch television. Additionally, considering the success of Bridgerton season 1, it may be smart of Netflix to make the season 2 premiere launch as similar to that as possible.

Though, Bridgerton season 2 is likely to be a hit no matter when it's released, and it's surely better the production take its time to perfect the show rather than rush it to meet any specific date. Still, with many books already published in the series of novels, it's likely the team behind the show has had Bridgerton season 2 mapped out for quite some time, making it easier to get started filming so soon after season 1 premiered. Like Bailey, most are probably hoping for a Bridgerton return at Christmastime. However, cautiousness is key while filming in the middle of a pandemic, and unforeseen delays are always possible. When season 2 begins filming, hopefully it will become easier to predict the show's return.
