Bridgerton season 2 is already setting up its best future storyline. The sophomore season of the hit Netflix series will usher in a new romance between Anthony, the eldest Bridgerton, and Kate Sharma. A first look at Anthony and Kate’s relationship was revealed during the streamer’s Tudum fan event on September 27, but it was a glimpse into Eloise’s transformation in Bridgerton season 2 that hints at an upcoming storyline.
Eloise Bridgerton had not made her societal debut in season 1 of Bridgerton and successfully managed to continue its delay. Unlike her older sister Daphne, Eloise was very much not interested in getting married and often looked down upon her sister for wanting a traditional life. Eloise, on the other hand, believed that life left women limited and she wanted nothing more than to continue her education and be free of society’s rules for her. Something seems to change in Bridgerton season 2, however, because Eloise has debuted in society, wearing her hair fully up, with a crown sitting atop her head; a sparkling dress and white gloves complete the new look. Shocking as it is to see her looking more fancy, it’s the noticeable flower necklace that adorns her neck that could be foreshadowing Eloise’s own turn at romance.
It’s still too early for Eloise to take center stage on the show — her novel detailing her romance with Sir Phillip Crane is the fifth in Julia Quinn’s series, and she is in her late twenties when she meets him. But that doesn’t mean the Netflix series isn’t offering some clues regarding what’s in store for her. The flower necklace Eloise wears in the photo alludes to her future with Phillip, who is a bit of a recluse and is overly doting on the plants in his garden, including all of its flowers. Eloise wearing the flower necklace is similar to Anthony wearing clothing featuring bee designs in Bridgerton season 1, which hinted at his storyline in season 2 and the ways in which their father’s death (from a bee sting) affected him.
With Bridgerton’s costume design, everything seems intentional, and Eloise’s necklace could certainly be hinting at what’s to come for her down the line. Eloise’s romance with Sir Phillip will likely be more interesting than some of the other Bridgerton siblings’ stories because of the fact that she gets married later in life and it’s unexpected in the way that it happens. By the time of the book, called To Sir Phillip, With Love, Eloise has shunned marriage for so long. Visiting Phillip at his home after exchanging correspondence for some time is Eloise taking matters into her own hands and being an active participant in her love story, away from the prying eyes of the Ton and any expectations they might have of her.
Eloise is already a fan-favorite character, so setting up her future storyline in season 2 of Bridgerton makes sense. Building the anticipation for her romance with Phillip will be enough until he is officially introduced into the story. Season 1 set up Colin and Penelope, while slightly hinting at Anthony’s story as well. How Eloise will fare in Bridgerton season 2 remains to be seen, but the flower necklace she’s wearing in the first look images are certainly enough to peak interest until she becomes a core focus.
