There are seemingly innumerable weapons in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the Sword of the Six Sages is one of the most special. This sword made its second series appearance in BOTW after debuting in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Although fans of Twilight Princess will remember it as a powerful weapon, is it really worth the trouble to obtain it in the Sword of Six Sages in BOTW?

The Sword was created by the Six Sages before the events of Twilight Princess. The Sages plunged the Sword into Ganondorf’s chest in an attempt to eliminate him, but he was protected by the Triforce and kept the weapon for himself. During Twilight Princess’s epic final battle, Ganondorf wields the Sword of the Six Sages against Link. However, Link overcomes Ganondorf, using the Master Sword and its magic powers to pierce the wound in his chest that the Sages had given him many years prior.

Link never uses the Sword of the Six Sages in Twilight Princess. In Breath of the Wild, though, he can wield it against his strongest enemies, even Calamity Ganon. Although the Sword of the Six Sages in BOTW is a great weapon due to its importance in Legend of Zelda lore (and perhaps its strength in battle), the process of acquiring it in BOTW may simply not be worth the reward for some players.

BOTW’s Sword Of The Six Sages Is Not Worth The Trouble

The only way to obtain the Sword of the Six Sages in BOTW is through sheer luck. The Sword is a Super Smash Bros. Series Ganondorf amiibo exclusive item in BOTW, infrequently appearing in a treasure chest when the amiibo is scanned. Not only are amiibo increasingly difficult and expensive to get, but the weapon only has a rare chance of being in the chest each time it’s scanned. These factors can make the Sword of the Six Sages in BOTW inconvenient and costly for players.

Even if Link is able to get ahold of the Sword of the Six Sages in BOTW, there are other reasons why it might not be his weapon of choice. The Sword is described in BOTW’s inventory as a two-handed longsword. Its base strength is 48 and its base durability is 50; when the Sword breaks, the whole process to acquire it starts over again. The Sword is significantly stronger than the similar Silver Longsword’s base stats of 22 and 30, respectively. However, the Sword of the Six Sages’ stats pale in comparison to the strength of Master Sword which can reach 60 strength and infinite durability. Just as in Twilight Princess, the Master Sword is a stronger weapon of choice in Breath of the Wild.

Aside from the Master Sword, there are other strong weapons for the Sword of the Six Sages in BOTW to compete with. In order for the Sword to spawn in the amiibo chest, Link has to have completed at least one Divine Beast. Link has likely encountered comparable weapons that aren’t as exclusive by that point in the game, such as the notoriously strong Lynel weapons. Taken altogether, getting the Sword of the Six Sages in BOTW is inconvenient, costly, and really not strategically worth all of the trouble to obtain it in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. That being said, however, it is a great addition to the game for fans of the series' lore.
