In starting up another playthrough for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, one player encountered a presumably rare version of the opening scene, which depicts a bird soaring past Link. Nintendo released Breath of the Wild approximately four years ago, introducing a host of new gameplay elements to the long-running series. Despite the changes, BOTW still features callbacks to previous Zelda entries.

What didn't change is Nintendo's penchant for imbuing the franchise with iconic imagery. As many players can attest, BOTW's opening minutes boast their fair share of beautiful frames. Most stunning is the brief section where Link exits the Shrine of Resurrection and sprints to the edge of a cliff for his first look at all that awaits on the journey ahead. During that scene, right at the start of Link's sprint, the sunbeams blaze into view, the sound of a piano kicks in, and birds tweet cheerfully nearby. One player recently discovered there's an even more awe-inspiring version of this very scene available in-game.

A few days ago, Reddit user SamsungAppleOnePlus shared a 20-second clip of their brother's latest run through the Breath of the Wild intro sequence. Typically, the lead-up to the title card's appearance features the aforementioned scene wherein Link runs to the edge of a cliff. The scene boasts the sounds of birds chirping in the background, but they aren't actually seen on-screen. However, the clip from the Redditor shows there's another version of this very scene, a version in which a large bird soars over the cliff ahead of Link's arrival. Suffice it to say, this apparently rare occurrence makes the opening segment all the more breathtaking.

Given the way the camera follows the bird, other fans in the Reddit thread ponder whether this iteration was meant to serve as the scene's definitive version. This could be another Breath of the Wild glitch, though, a mistake that just so happens to work out beautifully.

Since Breath of the Wild hit store shelves four years ago, fans are patiently awaiting news about the eagerly-anticipated sequel. Nintendo confirmed the project's existence during E3 2019, but concrete details presently remain under lock and key.
