Whilst doing battle with a Guardian Scout, a Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild player witnessed an impressive display from their foe that demonstrated a surprising amount of intelligence. Guardian Scouts are a small variant of the punishing Guardian Strikers that can be found throughout the world of the 2017 Game of the Year. Currently, it is not yet known if this enemy type will return for Breath of the Wild 2, which has an unspecified release date sometime in 2022.

The Zelda franchise has its fair share of common enemies that have carried over from title to title over the course of the series. Veteran fans have become quite familiar with the likes of Moblins, Octorocks, and Lizalfos over the decades as they are always made to be cannon fodder for Link. BOTW, however, made many of these Zelda staples stronger forces to be reckoned with, even making some intelligent enough to occasionally ambush an unsuspecting Link. One notable enemy type that joined the franchise with BOTW is the Guardian and recently one player witnessed a reason as to why they are a force to be reckoned with.

Reddit user roy_mustang_1138 posted a short video of a battle against a singular and surprisingly smart Guardian Scout. Roy_mustang_1138 quickly puts some distance between Link and the scout, seemingly trying to draw their foe towards a remote bomb on the ground. Before the enemy gets too close to the explosive, however, it stops, backs away, and blows it up with a quick laser blast before charging Link once again.

This display adds to the reputation Guardians quickly developed for being terrifying to some players. A Guardian laser blast can be devastating for any BOTW player, especially because of how much distance it can cover in an instant. What makes this particular display even more unsettling for BOTW players is that there is a working mind behind the controls of such a powerful weapon, or at least one clever enough to spot a trap most gaming enemies would totally ignore.

Little details like this are everywhere in BOTW and combined they add a special layer to the game that is not often found in many other open-world titles. There is thought behind a lot of what is going on across Hyrule, making the world feel so much more alive. Even the robotic Guardians have more to them than meets the eye. This is why even after four years, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild still surprises players thanks to the sheer amount of thought-out content in BotW.
