His last completed work was the creation of the armors in the recent hit Iron Man - he was scheduled to do special effects work on Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

Winston died at home Sunday evening after a seven-year struggle with multiple myeloma (a cancer of the plasma cell that is treatable but incurable), according to a rep from Stan Winston Studio.

"Stan died peacefully at home surrounded by family," a spokeswoman said.

Stan leaves a heck of a legacy behind him and is the man behind the visual and make-up effects of many of movies that have left a big impression on me including Aliens, Predator, The Thing, and Terminator I & II. He also shared an Oscar for VFX work with Phil Tippet for the film Jurassic Park.

My condolences go out to his family. He will definitely be missed in Hollywood...
