This year marks the beginning of the end for a blockbuster fantasy literary adaptation franchise that means the world to its millions of adoring fans around the world. Okay, the obvious punchline is that I'm referring to The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and not Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, but that description is nonetheless a highly accurate one.
Several pics have been released from the first half of director Bill Condon's Breaking Dawn adaptation, and they feature exactly what you'd expect: a whole lot of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) looking all lovey-dovey at one another while on their honeymoon in Rio de Janeiro.
For those unfamiliar with Stephenie Meyer's original Twilight novels, Breaking Dawn picks up with the mortal Bella and her vampiric lover Edward not too long after the events of Eclipse. The two are (at last) married and off on their honeymoon to an exotic locale; it is there that they end up... well, doing the same things that every newlywed couple does on their honeymoon. Suffice it to say, things become a bit complicated thereafter.
Those who are curious about what said "complication" entails can find out by reading the official Breaking Dawn synopsis. Everyone else can go ahead and enjoy (or something like that) these early images of Bella and Edward cuddling/staring longingly at one another/participating in a pie-eating contest (kidding on that last one) - along with some pics of Jacob (Taylor Lautner) looking as ... manly as ever, and Michael Sheen as one of the head vampire honchos (a.k.a. a member of the Volturi). Also - kudos if you note the nod to the cover of the original Breaking Dawn novel.

There's not much more to say about Breaking Dawn this point. You know by now whether you love or loathe the Twilight franchise with a passion, but give Condon credit - he's recruited a solid technical crew and an admirable composer to help make the concluding two-part chapter to this series one that looks and sounds great. The story, characters, and dialogue look to be on par with previous installments as well, so if you loved (or could survive through) those, then it looks like the "best" is yet to come, so to speak.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 hits theaters this fall on November 18th. Part 2 will arrive next year on November 16th.
