AMC has announced that Breaking Bad season 5 will premiere Sunday, July 15 @10pm. Additionally, it was also announced that the final chapter of the series will conclude a year later, beginning summer 2013.
Essentially creating two "final" seasons of Breaking Bad, the divided seasons will each contain 8 episodes. Initially positioned as a "super-sized" final season, AMC's decision to air Breaking Bad's final season across two years always felt more like a way to take advantage of fan anticipation - rather than providing an extended conclusion for one of television's best series.
Concluding the tale of the one-time chemisty teacher turned drug lord, much of television has been wondering what Walter White's (Bryan Cranston) fate will be. Will his faithful partner in crime, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), follow in the same path?
Now that Gus (Giancarlo Esposito) has been "dinged," the focus will now return to Walter and Jesse, and how they handle the opportunities (and challenges) before them. Not to mention the many (many) secrets that will be revealed.
Though it may take two years to find out the fate of Walter White, there's no doubt in anyone's mind that it'll be worth it. Consistently one of the most beloved series in the history of television, series creator Vince Gilligan has established a world that is home to one the best character dramas on TV.
With Breaking Bad season 5 set to premiere in less than two months, expect to hear more about what's in store for Walter and Jesse in the coming weeks. Additionally, with production currently underway on the entire final season of Breaking Bad, we'll hopefully find out more soon about our favorite foes in 2013.
This will (maybe) make that 10-month wait a little easier to bare. Maybe.
