The famous pizza scene from Breaking Bad has been turned into a 3D retro-style minigame. Breaking Bad is renowned for its intense drama and themes of moral ambiguity, but fans of the series also cherish the smaller zanier moments, intentional or not, that break through the serious facade every now and again.

Reddit user westonfahey79 recently shared a video showcasing a self-made Breaking Bad video game that features an homage to one of the show’s more absurd moments. Created with the vintage polygonal textures of the Nintendo 64/PlayStation 1 era, westonfahey79’s game takes Breaking Bad and Grand Theft Auto and combines them into one retro experience. The video shows Walter White leaving his house to save his partner Jesse from a pair of gun-toting drug dealers, but not before collecting a pizza token outside. Upon collecting the pizza, the 'PIZZA FRENZY' minigame begins, and the player must toss five pizzas onto Walter's roof. This minigame is a tribute to the Breaking Bad episode Caballo sin Nombre, where Walter White attempts to make amends with his estranged wife by bringing her a pizza. When his antics fail, he throws the pizza on the roof in a fit of rage. The fact that the game uses the same sound Walter makes when he hurls the pizza in the show for each toss makes the experience all the more entertaining.

While the pizza tossing game is fun, westonfahey79’s video would continue to show the main mission. Walter speeds through the retro screen textures of Breaking Bad’s GTA inspired city as Jesse’s health bar ticks down. In a tribute to the episode Half Measures, Walter White saves Jesse from the drug dealers by brutally running them down with his car and shooting one in the head. Unfortunately, in this version, instead of taking Jesse to the hospital, Walter accidentally reverses into him in a fatally amusing fashion.

With a show as multifaceted as Breaking Bad, it’s little wonder that its characters manage to find themselves taking part in video game-themed tributes. Thanks to fans, Walter White has found his way into games like Elden Ring, Animal Crossing, and Stardew Valley. Another fan had Walter and Jesse face off in Mario Kart, where thanks to the dreaded Blue Shell, Jesse proved the victor. There have also been numerous Breaking Bad-themed Easter eggs in modern games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and Far Cry 6 featured Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the villainous Antón Castillo.

Though nearly 10 years have passed since the show's end, Breaking Bad continues to resonate with audiences, new and old. Fun little tributes like westonfahey79's Breaking Bad retro video game show that even an angry man throwing a pizza can be impactful when done correctly. Whether this game becomes more than a pizza minigame and a single mission is unknown, but maybe one day, Walter White and the rest of the Breaking Bad crew will grace console screens with an official game of their own.
