Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul producer Peter Gould says that it's possible for more stories set in the universe and even dropped the names of some characters he thinks could be further explored. Gould began as a writer on Breaking Bad and would go on to become a producer for the final three seasons. After the show ended, he co-created Better Call Saul with Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, acting as executive producer and showrunner on the Bob Odenkirk-starring spinoff, which is currently in its sixth and final season.

Better Call Saul may be a spinoff, but it's been equally as celebrated as the show that spawned it. Breaking Bad devotees were able to see the backstories of some of that show's classic characters explored in the prequel series, including the likes of Mike Ehrmantraut (Johnathon Banks), Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito), and Hank Schrader (Dean Norris). Even Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul will be reprising their roles of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman before Saul ends in August. So what's next for the Breaking Bad universe?

While speaking to Metro, Gould was asked about the possibility of additional stories set in the same world as the previous two shows. "Every single one of these characters could have a whole show," he said. "There’s no question. I mean, Kim Wexler, Mike Ehrmantraut, Hank Schrader." He seemed especially interested in the idea of more stories surrounding Walter White's DEA agent brother-in-law. "I could see the Hank Shrader show, absolutely."

Jesse and Walter in Breaking Bad

Gould isn't alone in teasing the possibility of future stories set in the world of Breaking Bad. AMC Studios head Dan McDermott recently said that the "door is always open" at the network should Gilligan or Gould approach with an idea for any future Breaking Bad spinoffs. However, nothing has been announced yet and Gould also hinted he'd be taking at least a break from the franchise after Saul wraps up. Still, the fact that he could so easily rattle off characters that could be feasible options is possibly a good sign for audiences left wanting more after Saul since ideas have already been considered.

The question then becomes what would these shows even be? Both Hank and Mike are dead by the final episode of Breaking Bad and both actors will soon age out of their roles, if they haven't already. So it seems the only feasible possibility there would be to recast the actors and develop the series as prequels. Saul found enormous success going the prequel route, though with the benefit of the original actor returning. Meanwhile, Kim's fate on Better Call Saul is currently a mystery, especially since she never appears in Breaking Bad. Both series are celebrated for their well-developed characters and its meditative exploration of them, so the idea of further Breaking Bad-adjacent stories is an alluring one.
