With Better Call Saul ending its acclaimed run, many fans looked back on the finale of its originator, Breaking Bad. All these years later, fans still have plenty of opinions on how Walter White's story concluded. And while it was a well-received finale, some fans would have liked to see it go in a different direction.

Fans on Reddit have offered their own alternate endings to Breaking Bad and how they would have liked to see the show wrapped up. These endings range from happy crowd-pleasers to devastatingly dark finales, but all offer an interesting end to Breaking Bad.

Walt Jr. Becomes An Addict

Despite being a part of Walt's family, Walt Jr. did not get a lot to do in the final seasons of Breaking Bad. The finale fans got shows that Walt's son has grown to hate his father in a heartbreaking yet understandable way.

One Redditor suggested an even more devastating way Walt Jr. could have been used for "the perfect ending." Seeing as the show rarely focused on the damage Walt's drugs did to people, they felt having Walt Jr. become addicted to meth could have packed an emotional punch.

Marie Tries To Kill Walt

One of the best aspects of the show was how it combined Walt's life as a criminal with trying to hold his family together. This was amplified in the final season with Hank's realization that Walt was Heisenberg which led to one of the most shocking deaths in a TV show ever as Hank met his demise.

Enjoying those aspects of the show, Redditor biGsam76 questioned "How much more family chaos could we get" with the finale. Their idea was to continue the conflict within the family with Marie trying to take revenge on Walt for Hank's death and Skylar standing between them.

Walt Strikes A Deal

Though Walt made plenty of bad decisions in the show, he was also a very clever man. One of the thrills of the show was seeing how he would get himself out of difficult situations. Some fans thought that could have made for a crowd-pleasing, happier ending.

Redditor positron3000 came up with the idea of Walt turning himself into the police only to strike a deal with the DEA. He and Jesse would go free in exchange for helping to bring down Jack and his crew. They also suggested the ending could have Walt leaving the meth business behind as becoming "a professor of chemistry at a junior college."

Walt Becomes Heisenberg For Good

Throughout the series, Walt took gradual steps to become Heisenberg but he seemed to stop himself from becoming that monster in the end. Aside from wiping out his decidedly evil enemies, he also rescued Jesse and helped his family.

But one Redditor admitted they "wanted to see Walt "die" and Heisenberg become full time." They suggested the show could have ended with Walt killing Jesse and fully embracing his path as a ruthless drug kingpin.

Walt Turns Himself In To Save His Family

Many were expected the finale to deliver the violent shootout with the bad guys which is what fans got. But there were some who felt a quieter ending could have gotten back to what started the whole story – Walt looking out for his family.

One Redditor suggested the finale could have had Walt confessing to his crimes "in exchange for his wife's immunity." Interestingly enough, though there were a lot of questions after the Better Call Saul finale, it decided to go this similar route with Saul owning up to his mistakes.

Walt Blows Up His Lab

The final moments of that show found Walt, injured by a stray bullet, walking into the meth lab where he finally dies. It is a fitting end for the character as the lab is where he felt most alive. Yet there are some who wanted to see Walt go out with more of a bang.

Redditor voidsoul22 liked the idea of Walt dying in his lab but felt that he should have taken the lab with him. The idea of Walt blowing up his lab to kill himself could have worked "as a symbolic end to his empire."

Walt And Saul's Adventures Together

The penultimate episode of Breaking Bad found Walt making his getaway with a new identity and briefly being joined by Saul who was about to start his new life. This would mark Saul's final appearance on Breaking Bad, but some fans felt it could have started a new adventure with these two characters.

Redditor Sparky2112 imagined an admittedly silly idea in which Walt and Saul "get new identities and end up being roommates somewhere in Omaha." The banter between these two has always been fun and it is hard to deny how entertaining that could have been.

Walt's Family Doesn't Get The Money

After losing most of the money Walt saved up for his family, he lost in all to Jack and his gang of neo-Nazis. However, Walt still ensured his family's future in the finale as he blackmailed Gretchen and Elliott into secretly providing for them.

While Redditor GeekAesthete enjoyed the finale, they felt Walt shouldn't have succeeded in this part of his mission. They suggested that "adding some real tragedy to the ending" by leaving Walt's family with nothing once he was gone.

Walt Loses Everyone

Walter White is completely shattered in Breaking Bad.

Though many Breaking Bad characters contributed to Walt's downfall, the person who deserves the most blame is obviously Walt himself. In that sense, some fans feel Walt got off too easy in the finale as he got his revenge and ensured his family would be taken care of.

One Redditor felt this was too clean of an ending for a character who made so many mistakes along the way. They felt that a more fitting end would be if Walt survived but everyone he cared about was killed and Walt "gets to live with the consequences of his action."

It Was All A Dream

The trope that "it was all a dream" is sort of a cliché for a bad ending. Though it has largely been a disappointing route for a story to take, Redditor BKHoosiers suggested an interesting idea in which the "finale was the perfect fantasy in Walts mind."

As many fans felt that the actual ending prove too easy for Walt, the idea that this ending in which he triumphs and saves his loved ones was imagined as Walt gradually dies alone in a cabin is a pretty striking one.
