Square Enix has revealed that Bravely Default 2 is coming to Steam next week, which means that it will no longer be a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Bravely Default 2 was initially released for the Nintendo Switch on February 26, with Square Enix presenting it as a return to form for the series after the producer of its predecessor publically apologized for its quality.

Bravely Default 2 is a turn-based JRPG, with a strong focus on unlocking character classes and mixing their special abilities. The story follows a sailor named Seth, who joins up with a princess and two adventurers, as they seek to protect the elemental crystals from being corrupted. If they fail in their mission, then a creature called the Night Nexus will be able to enter the world and destroy it.

Square Enix has officially announced that Bravely Default 2 is coming to Steam on September 2, 2021. A trailer for the game can be seen on the official Square Enix YouTube channel. The game will have a 10% pre-purchase discount until September 13. There doesn't appear to be any other bonuses for pre-purchasing, like the songs or wallpapers given out with the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster games.

The trailer for Bravely Default 2 suggests that it will feature the exact same content as the Nintendo Switch version of the game. One benefit of the PC version is that fans will have a chance to mod the game, and there's one way in which Bravely Default 2 would benefit from that. The biggest criticism of Bravely Default 2 was the extensive number of counter-attacks that enemies could use against the player, forcing the player to min-max like crazy, in order to survive the boss fights. A mod that removed or greatly reduced the number of counters available to enemies would be a major improvement and bring the gameplay in line with the older entries in the series.

This isn't the first time that a Square Enix game started out as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, only to jump to other platforms further down the line. Octopath Traveler jumped to Xbox, Google Stadia, and PC after a year of being restricted to the Switch. It's more surprising with Bravely Default 2, as the previous entries in the series were exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS. It's possible that big sales of Bravely Default 2 on other platforms could convince Square Enix to create HD remasters of the older games and bring them to modern systems in the future.
