The first teaser trailer for Netflix's upcoming miniseries Brand New Cherry Flavor is out, taunting viewers with a twisted premise and black magic vibes. Based on Todd Grimson's novel of the same name, the show's official synopsis teases a tale about an aspiring film director in 1990 Los Angeles who embarks on a mind-altering journey of supernatural revenge that gets nightmarishly out of control. The series was created by Nick Antosca and Lenore Zion and stars Rosa Salazar (Alita: Battle Angel), Catherine Keener (Get Out, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Being John Malkovich) and Mark Acheson.

Netflix released their first teaser for Brand New Cherry Flavor, which doesn't waste any time building up to its eerie storyline. Right from the get-go, the predatory relationship between a big time Hollywood producer (Acheson) and an aspiring artist (Salazar) is established. What immediately follows is a series of unsettling, torturous images in a psychological and supernatural whirlwind of chaos. Signing off with the voice-over narration of "all I wanted to do was make a movie," it's evident the series takes on a familiar theme that warns naive dreamers about the inherent threat that comes with getting more than what one bargains for. It's easy to appreciate when Hollywood knows how to point the camera toward itself and explore the inner complexities of a world not everyone understands. With all of its glitz and glory, the industry's innately mystifying and intriguing nature comes with speculation about the dark secrets and dirtiness behind closed curtains. For horror fans, it's even more fun when this satirical cynicism is met with something sinister. With a total of eight episodes on deck, Brand New Cherry Flavor will premiere on August 13th.
