Netflix's new series Brand New Cherry Flavor has proven to be a hit with viewers, but it remains to be seen if the Rosa Salazar show will be back for season 2. Season 1 was adapted from the eponymous novel by Todd Grimson, which follows a young filmmaker (Salazar) who chases her Hollywood dreams to California, only to be thwarted and used by a shady producer (Eric Lange). Brand New Cherry Flavor succeeds where a lot of streaming horror fails. It does this by creating genuine moments of tension and uneasiness without having to resort to cheap tricks and obvious jump scares.

There are scenes in Brand New Cherry Flavor that will stay with viewers for days thanks to their surreal imagery, much like some of the great staples of the genre. The show's success is largely due to a confident and meticulous vision by creators and producers Nick Antosca and Lenore Zion. The duo previously worked together on the stellar Syfy horror series Channel Zero, which, much like American Horror Story, tackled a new tale of terror each season.

For Brand New Cherry Flavor, there are plenty of directions to take the story and the remaining characters, particularly Salazar's Lisa Nova. However, is season 2 in the cards for the show?

Although Netflix has not officially announced a season 2, the generally positive response from critics and viewers suggests another chapter of Lisa's story could be headed to the streamer. At this point, it's hard to say when a potential season 2 would release, but it would likely be at least a year, as that's often the minimum amount of time between Netflix show seasons. In an interview with Screen Rant, Antosca discussed the possibility of Brand New Cherry Flavor, intended to be a limited series, continuing on in some form:

We planned it as a contained story. Never say never if all the stars align, but we felt we wanted to take this journey with this character. So, we took elements of what Todd created to tell a contained story.

Antosca also discussed how the series made changes within the novel's plot, pointing out season 1 only got through the beginning of a longer tale. This shows there's more story to unpack in a potential season 2.

There's a lot that changed from the book, and this series basically takes the first section of the book and explores that. What was most important was that story of somebody trying to realize their vision despite all these obstacles.

Season 1 of Brand New Cherry Flavor ends with Lisa returning to her home country of Brazil, despite finally receiving the credit and recognition she'd wanted for all along. Still, the lingering spirit of Boro (Catherine Keener) remains "alive" and well, so there is plenty of avenues season 2 could take. Learning more about Lisa's history while in Brazil, interwoven with a present-day central story, could be a possible scenario as Lisa determines where to go next in her life.
