The last time moviegoers saw actor Brad Pitt on the big screen was several years ago, so what is the actor's next movie? 2019 was a big year for Pitt, who appeared as astronaut Roy McBride in the sci-fi thriller Ad Astra. He also starred opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time ... In Hollywood. Pitt won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as washed-up stuntman Cliff Booth. After the pandemic hit, studios were forced to delay filming and push back release dates, but now that the movie industry is starting to recover, Pitt has been busy back at work.
Ever since Pitt's breakout performance as a sexy drifter in Ridley Scott's Thelma & Louise (1991), the actor has built an impressive resume working with directors David Fincher (Fight Club, Se7en), Ethan and Joel Coen (Burn After Reading), Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Twelve, Ocean's Thirteen), and Terry Gilliam (12 Monkeys). In 2001, alongside his then-wife Jennifer Aniston and Brad Grey, Pitt founded Plan B Entertainment, Inc, and he's enjoyed enormous success as an executive producer on such films as 12 Years a Slave, which won Best Picture in 2014.
At age 57, Pitt, whose good looks have earned him People's title of "Sexiest Man Alive" twice, remains a huge box office draw. He is set to appear in three films in 2022, but the only one with a confirmed release date is Paramount Pictures' Lost City of D. The romantic action comedy, directed by brothers Aaron and Adam Nee (Band of Robbers, Masters of the Universe), stars Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, Patti Harrison, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Oscar Nuñez. According to THR, Paramount has set a release date of April 15, 2022.
In April, THR revealed Bullock, who is also producing the film, reached out to her friend Pitt to appear in a cameo role. According to Paramount (via THR):
" ...the story centers on a reclusive romance novelist who is sure nothing could be worse than getting stuck on a book tour with her cover model. That is, until a kidnapping attempt sweeps them both into a cutthroat jungle adventure, proving life can be so much stranger, and more romantic, than any of her paperback fictions."
Bullock plays the author and Tatum the model. The details surrounding Pitt's cameo have so far been kept under wraps. If Lost City of D beats Pitt's other 2022 movies to the local cineplex, it will be two and a half years since Pitt's last movie hit theaters.Filming on Lost City of D, written by Dana Fox (How to Be Single) and Oren Uziel, based on a treatment by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), is currently underway in the Dominican Republic. Bullock's last film was 2018's Bird Box, and Tatum provided the voice of Superman in 2019's The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.
Even though Pitt has been absent from the big screen, he's keeping the creative juices flowing on the other side of the camera. He served as an executive producer on the Amazon Prime series The Underground Railroad, based on the novel by Colson Whitehead, which premiered in May 2021. Plan B joined forces with Netflix for the Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates, which is expected to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2021. The film was directed by Andrew Dominik, who worked with Pitt on 2007's The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and stars Ana de Armas (Knives Out) as the iconic bombshell.
