Warning: The following feature contains SPOILERS for The Boys Season 2.

Is Stormfront, the newest member of The Seven in Amazon Prime's The Boysa white supremacist? There's ample reason to believe so based on the first three episodes of Season 2, even ignoring the secret Nazi past of Vought-American's founder. And Erik Kripke, the showrunner for The Boys, outright confirmed that Aya Cash's newcomer Stormfront “is a racist piece of garbage" in an interview with The Wrap.

Based on the graphic novel series created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys quickly expanded beyond the base concept of the comics, in which a CIA-backed black ops team was charged with monitoring all superheroes and neutralizing any whose deviant behavior threatened the world. While the team of Butcher, Wee Hughie, Mother's Milk, the Frenchman and the Female (now named Kimiko) were still present, the show has put a greater emphasis on the individual members of The Seven; a parody of the Justice League, who were presented as the most popular heroes of The Boys' reality. The show has also developed its world a bit more, exploring the effects that superheroes have on society while satirizing modern popular culture.

At first, the character of Stormfront seemed to have been added to The Seven to act as a parody of both influencer culture and radical feminism. She continually live-streamed to her followers on-line while instructing them not to buy her unrealistically proportioned action figure and complained that her company-issued super-suit didn't have pockets, yet outlined "every crease in my ass." However, this persona (which acted more like a millennial stereotype than an actual person) was undercut by several incongruities between the image Stormfront presented to the public and how she acted in private. For instance, despite her anti-authority statements on her social media, she seemed unusually attracted to the incredibly conservative Homelander, whose blond hair and buff physique fit the Aryan ideal of the perfect man. She even gushed about how very blue his eyes were when they first met. She was also rude and unusually cold toward A-Train, the one black member of The Seven, when he tried to speak to her.

The Boys Stormfront Attacks Kimiko's Brother

Everything was a set-up for the shocking revelation implied by the end of episode 3. The most damning evidence of Stormfront being a closet racist came in the climax of " Over the Hill with the Swords of a Thousand Men." It was here, as The Seven closed in on an alleged super-terrorist (who just happened to be Kimiko's brother, Kenji) that Stormfront's true colors were revealed as she pursued the two siblings into a crowded apartment complex after blowing them through a wall with her lightning powers. Stormfront stopped her pursuit to kill the black family whose apartment she trashed for no apparent reason, since The Seven were not operating covertly and have a whole corporation to cover their collateral damage and public relations. She also uttered an ethnic slur when she finally killed Kenji while Kimiko watched, confirming her racism.

It's worth mentioning that the original The Boys comics had a character name Stormfront, who was both history's first superhuman and a Nazi and it's clear the show's version is adapting at least part of the character. It's also no coincidence that Stormfront shares her name with one of the most infamous white supremacist websites in the world. In any case, it seems that the series will be using Stormfront to analyze how real-world racist groups attempt to win over young people by co-opting popular culture, which is a legitimate problem in the real world. And the misdirecting set-up - complete with warning signs - is itself a commentary on how insidious that sort of hate is, particularly in online communities.
