Two of the stars previously casted in The Boys spinoff have now left the upcoming series. Amazon Prime's superhero/dark comedy show, based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic book of the same name, first premiered in 2019 and quickly became one of the streaming platform's most successful original programs in both viewership and reception. It follows a team of vigilantes as they set out to take down the "Seven," a group of superheroes who abuse their powers. Two derivative works were announced in 2020, the first of which, titled The Boys Presents: Diabolical, was released this month. News of the second spinoff of The Boys was confirmed last year, with Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters serving as the new showrunners following Craig Rosenberg's exit. The new series takes place in a college for superheroes, with Aimee Carrero, Shane Paul McGhie, Jaz Sinclair, Lizzie Broadway, Maddie Phillips, and Reina Hardesty having joined the cast last spring.

Now, Deadline is reporting that Carrero and McGhie have left The Boys spinoff series. Their decision "stemmed from a variety of factors, including the long process to get the spinoff to production with the actors attached for over a year while other acting opportunities presented themselves, as well as changes from the original version of the project the actors had signed up for." While both roles will be recast, it is reportedly still possible that McGhie could return to The Boys universe in the future. As for Carrero, she has joined Prime's The Consultant, as well as Paramount+'s The Offer.

The Boys spinoff will be quite different than the original hit, with series creator Eric Kripke likening it to a Marvel project in that way, and saying that it will have a distinctly separate style and tone. With the reception towards Diabolical being as good as it is, fans can rest assured that Kripke and the creative minds behind any in-universe projects will deliver a hilarious and violent series capable of maintaining a deeper narrative. As they await any more news surrounding cast replacements and release dates, audiences can look forward to The Boys season 3 when it debuts on Amazon Prime this summer.
