Star Jack Quaid has revealed that his character Hughie Campbell will not be appearing in The Boys spinoff Gen V season 1. The Boys is an irreverent Prime Video superhero series known for its graphic violence and sexual content which follows the titular group of civilian vigilantes as they attempt to bring down a Justice League-esque group of superheroes who are secretly not as noble and good as the public thinks they are. Hughie is one of the main characters in the series, having joined The Boys as their tech wizard after his girlfriend is killed by the supe A-Train (Jessie T. Usher).

The next entry in The Boys universe will be Gen V, a college-set spinoff that is set to premiere in 2023. The show was developed by Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, who previously co-created Emergence and Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, and will be centered on the young supes training at Vought International's Godolkin University School of Crimefighting. The cast of the series will include Lizze Broadway (The Rookie), Maddie Phillips (Ghost Wars), London Thor (You), Derek Luh (Shining Vale), television newcomer Asa Germann, Shelley Conn (Bridgerton), and Patrick Schwarzenegger (Midnight Sun), as well as reuniting Chance Perdomo and Jaz Sinclair, who are both alums of Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Recently, Variety sat down with Quaid to discuss his roles in Star Trek: Lower Decks and The Boys. When they discussed the latter, they asked if there was a possibility he would be appearing in Gen V. He said "not at this point," but he did have the chance to meet the cast while shooting Lower Decks' crossover with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Both shows were shooting in Toronto at the same time, so he took them out to brunch, saying they were "so cool." Read his full quote below:

[I won't be appearing in Gen V, at least] not at this point. I haven’t really talked about that with anyone, but I’d love to be. I actually can talk about this now, because it was happening when I was shooting “Strange New Worlds” in Toronto, and that was just as the cast of “Gen V” was starting production. So I took them all out to brunch one day. I got to know a bunch of them. They’re awesome. They’re so talented. They’re so cool. I can’t wait for that show to come out. I wish them all the best. They’re gonna knock it out of the park.

Hugh Campbell from The Boys

So far, no characters from The Boys have been announced to appear in Gen V. However, the show will feature an appearance by Sean Patrick Thomas as Polarity, a character he previously played in the animated spin-off Diabolical. While Quaid has made it quite clear he will not be appearing, at least this time around, it's certainly possible that one of his co-stars will make a surprise cameo.

It makes more sense that the characters in Gen V would have more opportunity to meet characters from the Vought International crew than from The Boys themselves, anyway. In The Boys, Vought is the media company that funds the supe team The Seven. They're essentially a propaganda machine for the group while they secretly seek world domination, and considering the fact that the company also runs the university, it is more than likely that some familiar faces from that end will be making an appearance.
