Jeffrey Dean Morgan might join The Boys season 3 cast. Debuting on Amazon Prime Video in 2019, The Boys brought the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comic book to life with all the mature content readers expected. With a clear tonal difference from most superhero content, The Boys became a big hit for Amazon and continued to find new fans as the praise of the series grew. Amazon knew they had a hit on their hands too, as season 2 was announced before a single episode was released.

After over a year, the wait for new episodes of The Boys is winding down. It was recently announced that The Boys season 2 will begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video over Labor Day, with the first three episodes dropping that day instead of the full season. Amazon will instead debut one new episode per week afterward, giving The Boys a chance to create even more anticipation and conversation. So far, Amazon hasn't announced plans for a third season of the series, but that hasn't stopped some preparation for more of The Boys from taking place - and that might result in Jeffrey Dean Morgan joining the cast.

During a recent interview with Collider, showrunner Eric Kripke discussed the possibility of The Walking Dead star joining The Boys for season 3. Morgan and Kripke worked together before on Supernatural and Morgan then asked for a role in The Boys on social media after season 1 dropped. Although the specifics haven't been worked out, Kripke has confirmed he and Morgan have recently discussed him appearing in season 3.

There’s one role we’re already talking about. We have to coordinate, because he’s on The Walking Dead, so he has another home. But we already talked about one role, and there might be a potential other that we’re talking about. But we are, just this past week we were literally texting back and forth about trying to figure out how to get him on the show. I don’t think it’s a done deal yet, but the will is there, and we’re both talking about it.

The addition of Morgan would be an exciting piece of casting for The Boys season 3. Morgan is no stranger to comic book adaptations either. His portrayal of Negan on The Walking Dead helped bring to life an accurate version of the threatening villain from Robert Kirkman's comics. Morgan was also one of the stars of Zack Snyder's Watchmen, where he played Comedian, and worked with Snyder again on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as he portrayed Thomas Wayne. Based on Kripke's response, it appears another comic book character could be added to Morgan's resume before too long.

If Morgan does join The Boys season 3, it sounds like he'll play one of two characters. Unfortunately, Kripke didn't tease which characters from the comics that he and Morgan have discussed. One possibility for who Morgan could be is Love Sausage, a Russian superhero who is an ally of Billy Butcher and the Boys. Without knowing how The Boys season 2 ends, it is unclear if Love Sausage makes sense with the story or if he could already be part of season 2's cast. Either way, Morgan will hopefully have a role in a future season of The Boys.
