Sony unveils The Boys seasons 1 & 2 Blu-ray collection which includes both deleted and extended scenes and the short film for Karl Urban's Billy Butcher. Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's graphic novels of the same name, the series is set in a world in which superheroes exist and use their powers for corrupt purposes, namely the famous superhero team known as the Seven run by the similarly corrupt conglomerate Vought International. Former SAS operator Billy Butcher elects to build a team of ordinary people in an effort to expose the Seven as the villains they really are and bring them down.

Karl Urban leads the cast of The Boys alongside Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Antony Starr, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capon, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, Colby Minifie, Aya Cash and Giancarlo Esposito. Developed for TV by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, the series has received rave reviews in its first two seasons for its dark sense of humor, hard-hitting action, the performances from its cast and staying true to the tone of Ennis and Robertson's comics. With it also proving to be a viewership success, The Boys has seen its franchise expanded with multiple spinoffs, including the similarly acclaimed Diabolical animated show.

Though The Boys isn't the first Amazon Prime Video show to be given the Blu-ray release treatment, it is one of the rarer examples in the field of streaming titles. Most streaming platforms never release their projects on to any form of home media unless the studio who co-produced them elect to give them such a release, with the John Kraskinski-led Jack Ryan series proving a good example as Paramount Television were behind its home media copies. Netflix is one of the more infamous of the streamers to not bring their projects to physical media, with fans of their various shows crying out for Blu-ray releases of such hits as Mike Flanagan's Midnight Mass, amongst others.

The decision to bring The Boys seasons 1 and 2 to Blu-ray may prove very beneficial for both Amazon and Sony. While the show has enjoyed a strong word of mouth in its run thus far and most people have an Amazon Prime subscription, which includes Prime Video, the opportunity for those who have remained out of the fold to get their hands on the series before committing to the subscription could see the show's grip expand to other audiences and Amazon's subscription numbers boost, all while Sony reaps the rewards of home media sales. While audiences await The Boys season 3's June 3 premiere, they can pick up the seasons 1 and 2 Blu-ray box set on May 17.
